Angry Leeds fan removed by stewards after trying to confront Farke in defeat to Aston Villa

An angry Leeds fan was removed by stewards after trying to confront manager Daniel Farke in the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday.

Lukas Nmecha’s opener for Leeds just 8 minutes in was awarded after a lengthy VAR check, before Villa levelled the scoreline three minutes into the second half through Morgan Rogers.

Rogers then got his and Villa’s second with stunning free-kick to seal all three points for visitors and make it Leeds’s third straight loss as pressure build on boss Daniel Farke.

Villa sit 4th in the Premier League table with 21 points from 12 games played, while Leeds are 18th with 11 points from 12 games played.

Speaking after the game, Farke said he wasn’t aware of the incident: “Everyone is disappointed. I don’t want one change in our supporters. I don’t want them to be happy after (we have lost) and to give some plaudits.

“We have a very passionate fan-base, and this is what we want – it’s a privilege. I don’t want our supporters to change one per cent. They should be angry and disappointed.

“I feel exactly the same, and for that, we would expect it, that it’s like this. I totally understand this.”

On any reassurance over his position by Leeds’ hierarchy: “No. We don’t have to speak about this topic, because this is not a topic I think one second about, really not.

“It’s not the question I am worried one second about. If you can’t handle the heat, don’t become a manager of Leeds United.”

“We were not scared today to make mistakes. We were not hiding today. We were brave and went for it. This is how I want a Leeds United side to play, not like it was away at Nottingham (Forest).’

On criticism towards Aaronson: “Is it really like how we want to treat human beings in our society?

“We feel better if we can put our anger on another human being. I don’t like it.”

Farke to BBC Match of the Day: “Performance-wise we’ve turned back to what we want to be. We dominated many periods against a very good side. We should’ve taken some points from this game. We are not back to our best, we can still improve, but at the end we are just disappointed we did not get any points.

“To concede two goals is not good. As good as we are attacking down the left side at the moment we concede too many goals. We concede so quickly straight after the restart.

“Over the course of 38 games you have ups and downs. It happens sometimes at this level. Performance-wise I was happy. At the moment we are in a period where things are going against us.

“Of course the fans are unhappy and disappointed once we lose games. I don’t want them to have a different reaction. I want them to feel like the world is falling apart when we lose a game, otherwise you can’t be a Leeds United supporter.

“I’m just fully focused on the performance. If we perform like this today we’ll win many more points.”

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery to Sky Sports on Morgan Rogers: “He was performing fantastic, even when he wasn’t scoring. It has always been his task to focus on the gameplan we have. Always he’s playing well. Today it’s better to be scoring goals but to me he’s always the same. His season has been fantastic. He is getting progressively better like the team. And today, scoring goals, he was brilliant.”

Emery to BBC Match of the Day: “Leeds United eh? First half we struggled, they deserved the first half. We weren’t dominating and competing like we did in the second half. Leeds were playing fantastic. Second half we changed some things. They tired in the second half and we dominated the ball more. We scored quick and that helped us a lot.

“It was key to equalise the match and then it continued. We had chances to get the second goal and we did. Then they had some chances. We are happy because this match was a challenge. I am so, so happy for the players.

“We are trying to set as high a standard as possible. My players were fantastic.

“Every team in the Premier League has great players and coaches. We must be consistent. We must be strong. Tactically it is very important and individually we have to show our quality.”

On Morgan Rogers: “He was playing fantastic. Today scoring his goal was brilliant. I try to get of him his qualities and make him feel comfortable in our structures. On the left, in the middle and as a striker. He is so, so competitive player. Always he accepts everything we are trying to do with him.”

Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “It’s a difficult place to come. They’re really strong at home. They played really well, with a high intensity. We had to dig in, we had to dig deep. Luckily, we managed to find two goals in the second half to win the game, which is the most important thing.”

“Of course we want to play better with pretty football, but you can’t always do that in the Premier League. Different teams pose different problems. We were really good with grit and dertermination, and we got the win.”

On Villa’s second-half improvement: “We played a lot quicker with more intensity and tried to hurt them more. In the first half, we didn’t really cause that many problems, but in the second half we definitely did. We played a lot quicker and a lot more forward.

“That definitely helps, but normally it’s about our heart and our spirit to win. Competing in battles, competing in duels, keep running, keep working. It was a difficult win, they pushed us right to the limit.”

On his goals: “I’m really happy. There’s been a few goals I haven’t quite got in other games so it was nice to get on the score sheet. But if I don’t score, it’s OK as long as we get the win.

“The manager’s always banging on at me to get into the box. That’s where the goals are scored. Sometimes I’m hesitant to go in. I went in and just kind of reacted to the ball. I’m lucky I could get a toe on it. I was really happy with that one.

“Straight out of half-time, we had the energy. The crowd was up, everything was going well. It was a good time to score.”

Rogers, speaking to Sky Sports: “We knew it wasn’t the game for pretty football and nice passes. It was about how hard we wanted it and how much we were determined.

“They were at us in the first half. We brought that energy in the second half. We brought that resilience. We had to dig deep at the end.”

On his free-kick winner: “It wasn’t bad. Emi [Buendia]’s been practising, I’ve tried to practise with him. I’m not as good as him. We’ve been practising that technique. I’m happy that went in. I’m happy it worked today.”

Aston Villa defender Matty Cash, speaking to Sky Sports: “It’s always tough to come to Elland Road. They’re a good team [with a] good atmosphere. In the first half, we could have been a little bit better but showed great resilience.

“The boys that came on did really well – and a little dippy from [Morgan Rogers] at the end. I see it every time in training.

“You have to be resilient in places like this. In the second half we played really well. There were some great finishes. I’m really happy.”

On Villa’s excellent form: “We started poorly but we’ve found a bit of rhythm and stuck together as a group. We have a fantastic manager who leads us really well. His message today was to win the game and get into the top four. We’re delighted.”

Twitter users reacted after an angry Leeds fan was removed by stewards when trying to confront Daniel Farke in defeat to Aston Villa…

@CrossMagic: I lost count how many times Aaronson lost the ball. HOW did he stay on the pitch for 80 minutes? I’ve generally stuck up for Farke, but that is absolutely atrocious management

@lufc_davet: I’ve often stuck up for Farke and think some of the criticism harsh but taking tanaka off and playing aaronson for 80 minutes (who had a shocker) is a sackable offense đŸ«Ą

@Stanny1987: Team was knackered after 60 minutes no subs. Then takes off tanaka who was having a class game his reading of the game was top notch defensively. Concede a crap goal. Throw on subs and hope. Played well first half but villa were poor. Has to go now it’s to predictable.

@DonWillioni: That in game management was shocking. The tide was turning at 60 mins and we started looking leggy. Exact same pattern at Forest a few weeks back. Tanaka off? What the fuck. Perri needs benching. Farke out now

@RSTJA: TIME for him to go. Tactically inflexible and arrogance is beyond the pale. Ownership has a lot to answer for.

@Bern_lufc: So, Not willing to change a game until it’s too late. Couldn’t get the boys focused start of second half. No tactics. Ridiculous substitutions. Just what is Farke doing right? We will be adrift pretty quickly. And the board haven’t done a thing right either. Sacking him too late.

@markwd1: A defence that can’t keep clean sheets, an attack that can’t score and a manager with not one clue what to do about it! We’re not sleepwalking towards relegation we’re sprinting!

@samclark1986: Subs should have been made after 55/60 minutes. James and Gnonto would have added a threat. The game was there for the taking. Farke waits too long as usual.

@DannyWright82: If Farke is now taking AO Tanaka off when he had been one of our best players then sadly I think its time… Having players come on as ‘finishers’ didn’t work today. Start them and take them off if you have to. Seems poor management.

@Ross__Pearce: This is literally deja vu from the 22/23 season. I don’t see how we get out of the bottom 3 now. As a club unfortunately we’ll never learn!
