There was some anger from fans on social media as a League Two match is postponed late on Friday night ahead of the weekend.
Statements were issued around 10:30pm on Friday from both Southend United and Cambridge United, with their upcoming league encounter forced to be called off.
There are a small number of cases of coronavirus within the Southend camp, however Cambridge feel disappointed and that game could still be played some how.

Southend said in a statement via their club website: “Southend United can confirm that tomorrow’s (Saturday 21st November) Sky Bet League Two fixture against Cambridge United at Roots Hall has been postponed.
“This is following a small number of players testing positive for COVID-19, the EFL’s Doctor instructing another squad member to isolate due to their close proximity of a player who tested positive and a plethora of players being unavailable due to injury.
“The club would only be able to field a maximum of 10 professional outfield players and two goalkeepers in the matchday squad and because of this the club have advised the EFL that it is unable to safely fufil the fixture.
“The club is following all of Public Health England and the EFL’s COVID-19 protocols and will not name the players in question. We ask that their request for privacy and confidentiality are respected at this time.”

Make all the representations you want. SUFC wouldn’t have called it off if they felt they had any other choice.

We have covid in our team so we rather both ours and your players are safe and are injury’s don’t help but the only person we can blame is Ron Martin would of had players if he had money and was a good owner pic.twitter.com/6haqfCrxRt

@LewisCobden what joke of a club
— colin cravens (@cravs1001) November 21, 2020
You’re all saying you should get the three points by default. Why? Scunthorpe got hit by Covid and the teams they were due to play weren’t awarded any points. Games played at a later date.

Wow what a classy club 😮 sorry to inconvenience you as a club with this pandemic, how is this late notice anyway 🤣 should our players results been priority over everyone else’s?

Really poor show from Cambridge fans here. People are dying from COVID every day & ur getting annoyed coz you’ve got 1 Saturday without a game. Perspective please. And for those suggesting we play our youth team – we’ve been doing that for a year and is why we are where we are
— James (@JHowell1985) November 21, 2020
think the League Two season should be cancelled and deemed null and void with immediate affect as games keep getting postponed due to teams having to self-isolate etc.

Can see why all the replies are so desperate for a free three points eh… pic.twitter.com/k6mnH5RP97

We lost 4-0 to Harrogate, I don’t think we’re arsed about potentially losing to one of the league’s most in-form teams 🤣
— Louis Ellison (@Louis_Ellison_) November 20, 2020
They are all in the first team.
— Tim Hardwicke (@Arselona) November 20, 2020
Our first team is the youth team.

Why be bothered when it’s announced? Had you already set your front room up?
— Ian Wilkins (@iwilksie) November 20, 2020
One way to make it two consecutive Saturdays unbeaten!
