Andy Robertson rescues Liverpool fan, 6, from ugly scenes with Nottingham Forest fans

Andy Robertson rescues Liverpool fan, 6, from ugly scenes with Nottingham Forest fans at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon.

The young child was saved from being caught up among a group of enraged Nottingham Forest fans following the contentious conclusion at the City Ground last weekend.

The 6 year old boy ended up being subsequently escorted and taken around the pitch by Liverpool players and manager Jurgen Klopp come full time.

A guided tour was complete with Klopp in the tunnel some time later, and was heard saying: ‘Tears are dry again. There’s no reason to cry anymore.’

Video footage captured Robertson pulling the child over a barrier as numerous irate Forest supporters hurled insults at the Liverpool staff on the bench and touchline.

Among the chaos, some could be heard shouting “cheat” along with a string of profanities, while a member of the away team’s medical team got into a heated exchange with a group of fans expressing their frustration from behind the dugouts.

Youngster was later seen with Reds manager Jurgen Klopp, who could be heard saying: 'There's no reason to cry anymore'

However, in the midst of that angry crowd, there was a young individual who caught the attention of Scotland captain Robertson due to his distress.

The youngster was guided towards the opposing team’s supporters as he participated in the jubilant festivities.

Harvey Elliott lifted him up, while the boy received a shirt worn during the match and took pictures with Klopp and Luis Diaz afterwards.

Joanna Durkan of This Is Anfield wrote: “You may have noticed after the final whistle at Nottingham Forest that a young fan suddenly appeared with the squad on the pitch, and it is thanks to the club’s bench and Andy Robertson.

“There was plenty of anger directed Liverpool’s way inside the ground, and a video has now surfaced showing the team’s bench being aggressively called “cheats,” among other choice words.

“A young Liverpool fan was in that area of the ground and Robertson can be seen lifting him over the hoardings to help move him away as fans grew more aggressive.

“He was later spotted with both Jurgen Klopp and Harvey Elliott as the team celebrated with the away end, a special memory for him, no doubt, not that it should have come to that.

“Klopp also had time for the youngster and his mum in the tunnel after the match, lifting the boy into his arms for a couple of photos and, no doubt, exchanging some brilliant words.

“The scenes are disgusting. We know how significant results can be but to act in that manner, especially when there are kids around, is inexcusable.

“Moreover, the poverty chants that reverberated around the stadium throughout the match only amplified the lack of class that was on show on Saturday. Be better, Forest.”

The fury of the Forest fans arose when Darwin Nunez scored the only goal of the game in the 99th minute, following a referee Paul Tierney’s error that granted possession to the away team one minute and 50 seconds prior.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis may be subject to an investigation by the FA for accompanying Tierney into the tunnel to seek clarification.

Mark Clattenburg, a former Premier League referee now serving as a consultant to the East Midlands club, was unexpectedly presented to the press following the incident.

He said: “The owner is quite upset because, of course, he has invested a lot of money in the club. He wants to see results and he feels that another decision has gone against the club.”

Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo was too angry to be drawn into a conversation about Tierney’s error. “I will not comment on the referee,” he said.

“We played a very good game, limited Liverpool, a fantastic team. They had chances, we had chances, it was a good game of football. We had clear chances and should improve. We played good but the team that are clinical get the advantage in the score. Our fans deserve to go home happy and they are not.”

Twitter users reacted as Andy Robertson rescues the Liverpool fan, 6, from ugly scenes with Nottingham Forest fans…

@willhatchard: My mates kid Lennon, Shame their fans are like that. He had a great time on the pitch.

@ianyoungkop: Glad he did mate, poor kid shouldn’t have had to go through that.

@petemaldridge: Funny, they seem to be angry at Liverpool, rather than the referee for making a technical error…

@GaryWilson67957: Needs reporting, forest will know them. Ban them.

@tigertracey: It be a tuff decision for him to go to another game after that… horrible to see. Hope he is ok

@BritBitch_1: Fucking hell, state of those grown men kicking off like that! Embarrassing cunts!

@reeroo_bhroov: Wow! Horrible fans there. Like it’s the physios fault eh? And that poor kid and girl. Terrible scenes. Surely @NFFC and the police need to take action. 🔴👊🏽

@pastymuncher86: Anyone would think Tierney had tackled a Forest player and volleyed one in the top corner. It isn’t our fault their players didn’t keep hold of the ball when they won it back on more than 1 occasions following the mistake.

@TolsonKieran: Good lad robbo! Cannot love him anymore!

@TheBodhisattvah: Grown men… beyond embarrassing. 🤦

@DC_1892: “Cheats” 😂 Aren’t these the same lot that have been charged with breaching the PL financial rules? 😭

@KEVR66: Lucky that barrier wasn’t a picket line they would of been right through it.

@Red_Scouser1892: I can’t wait for your points deduction, and you go back down to where you belong
