A furious Andoni Iraola claims Bournemouth were robbed against Man Utd while Erik ten Hag storms out of his post-match press conference.
Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes netted both goals as United fought back twice to secure a draw, cancelling out Dominic Solanke’s opener and Justin Kluivert’s goal that gave the hosts a lead at half time.
The Cherries were the better side in the first half, with Dominic Solanke punishing Willy Kambwala for his slip to put the hosts ahead, but then Fernandes netted on the volley from short range against the run of play.
Bournemouth went ahead again when Justin Kluivert punished more questionable defending from Man Utd defending, then United were level again when Fernandes rolled in a penalty after Adam Smith was penalised for an unfortunate handball.
Bournemouth had a stoppage-time penalty for a foul on Ryan Christie by Kambwala overturned, as replays showed it take place just outside the area – although the contact continued into the box.
But they have now dropped to seventh in the Premier League table after Newcastle’s 4-0 victory over Tottenham on the same day, further complicating their quest for European football.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola speaking to Sky Sports: “We could not finish it off. We are happy to take a point, and give importance to taking a point against Manchester United, but we think that we deserved the three points.
“We missed chances, especially in the first half. We should have begun the second half with a better scoreline. The reason we did not win was because we missed chances and all the refereeing decisions went against us. Those are the two main reasons.”
On the penalty decisions: “[The handball] I think it is in the rules no? The ball rebounds from his teammate and what Adam does is instinctive. I think it is not called normally, these kind of handballs.
“I believe completely it was a penalty [for Christie]. Against Newcastle the penalty against us, the contact started outside the box. But [today] the first frame was put so the first contact was on the edge of the box, but the contact continues one,two metres inside and is stopping the player.
“It is not just one moment and Christie is down. The defender goes with Christie one, two metres inside the box. For me it is obvious.
“In the first half Kobbie Mainoo dives and it is not a yellow card, second half Ryan Christie, there is contact and he falls down, but yellow card for diving. What is the difference?
“I understand that we are safe, but for us every point is very important. Very, very important. In the last games since we are safe all the decisions have gone against us. But at the end we need the same respect as other teams. All the teams are playing for important things, and it cost us two points and a lot of hard work. We demand some consistency.”
Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke speaking to Sky Sports: “Going into the game we were confident. Knew it would be tough game but we told ourselves we had beat them once this season so knew we could do it again. We created a lot of chances and should’ve been two or three up but we didn’t take the chances and the second half was a tight game.”
On the penalty decision: “I haven’t looked at it back but on the big screen it looked on the line so I think it could’ve been a penalty. Unlucky to not get it there and thought it would be our opportunity to go on and win it at the end.
“To beat United is something we’d love to do, it would’ve been a good chance to win it at the end so the boys are obviously a bit gutted about that.”
On the goal: “I don’t score too many from range so it’s nice to get one. I knew that I started the game well, I got the ball and saw him slip out the corner of my eye. I just had one thing on my mind and it was a good finish.
“Football is crazy sometimes I wouldn’t have thought I would score this many this season. We’ve been great this season and the manager has been great since he came in I’ve had a lot more chances this season, the style of play it’s suited me and I’ve benefitted from that.”
On a potential England selection for the Euros: “I would love to be there, everyone would love to be there, playing for your country in a big tournament. I just need to keep scoring and try and get as many as I can and I can be in with a shout.”
On manager Andoni Iraola’s style: “We had a bit of a slow start adapting to the style of play but the players we have it suits us like a glove. We have a lot of hardworking players. We like to press high and a lot of our goals have come from that. It’s great for me pressing high because we win the ball back and it creates chances for me.
“We’re such a confident side this season, we believe going into most games that if we’re on our game we’ll create chances. United are a big club but we’ve done well against them in both games this season. For us to create so many chances shows how good we’ve been.”
Sky Sports’ Joe Shread: “It’s hard not to feel sympathy for Andoni Iraola. While referee Tony Harrington made several questionable calls, it was unfortunate for Bournemouth that most of those decisions did not go their way.
“While Willy Kambwala’s foul on Ryan Christie in stoppage-time began outside the area, he clearly brought the Cherries midfielder down inside the area.
“IFAB’s laws state that, if a foul continues into the box, a penalty should be given. It was curious that VAR Jarred Gillett did not even recommend Harrington reviewed the decision at the monitor – he simply advised him to change his mind.
“Perhaps the most frustrating aspect of the penalty Adam Smith conceded is that Harrington technically made the correct decision. IFAB says that a handball occurs when a player “touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger.”
“Smith had no intention of making contact with Kobbie Mainoo’s shot after it deflected in his direction, but his arm was extended away from his body.
“However, Iraola is right to say those kind of handballs are often not given in the Premier League. And just because the laws as they are currently written say it should be a penalty, it doesn’t mean that is right, or even that it is good for the game.
“Should a player accidentally brushing the ball with their arm while minding their own business on the edge of the area really result in a nearly 80 per cent chance of scoring?
“The handball law remains broken – and Bournemouth suffered because of it.”
