Aldershot player Josh McQuoid announces he’s been diagnosed with rare type of cancer

Aldershot Town player Josh McQuoid announces via Twitter he’s unfortunately been diagnosed with a rare type of cancer in his leg.

The National League player, 33, has said in a statement via his Twitter that he will be undergoing treatment during the summer, with fans wishing the best of luck to him throughout his recovery.

McQuoid wrote: “This is difficult for me to say, but something I feel ready to share.

“A few weeks ago I was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called sarcoma in my leg. It’s still early days but the prognosis so far is positive as it can be and I will be undergoing treatment throughout the summer.

“It’s been a tough few weeks but I’m lucky to have such a great family and group of friends who are supporting me all the way.

“I want to thank my teammates, the manager and all the staff who have been supportive at this time.

“Hopefully this message can grow awareness around any lump or bump. I have my partner to thank for making me get checked. It’s normally nothing but it’s better to be safe then sorry.”

@theterras tweeted: “Everybody at Weymouth Football Club sends our best wishes to our former captain Josh McQuoid, as he battles cancer. Sending strength and love to you and your family Josh, we hope you get better soon 💜”

Aldershot boss Tommy Widdrington said: “You are a credit to yourself and your family Josh. I was torn when you informed me of your situation as to whether to tell you to stay at home or “carry on” just after I arrived but you proved to me what I thought. You showed unbelievable strength of character #jobdone”

@afcbournemouth: “All the best from everyone at the club, Josh. You’re in our thoughts ❤️”
