7th tier club confirm the signing of ex-Premier League and EFL striker

7th tier club Coalville Town confirm the signing of ex-Premier League and EFL striker Leroy Lita after departing Nuneaton Borough.

Yep, Leroy Lita is one of the bigger names to have adapting to life in non league since 2018, and at the age of 39, he’s still going strong.

The forward was a product of the Chelsea youth system, however, he failed to make a first-team appearance for the club; so in 2002, he moved to Bristol City and later represented Reading, where his form helped him earn a place with the England under-21 side.

He later played for Middlesbrough, Swansea City, Barnsley, Yeovil Town, in Greece for AO Chania and in Thailand for Sisaket, with loan spells at Charlton Athletic, Norwich City, Birmingham City, Sheffield Wednesday, Brighton & Hove Albion and Notts County.

He then moved into non league football and has been with the likes of Margate, Salisbury, Chelmsford City, Nuneaton Borough, Stratford Town, Hednesford Town and Ilkeston Town.

COALVILLE STATEMENT:

We have completed the signings of Scott McManus & Leroy Lita from league rivals Nuneaton Borough.

Both recently departed the Boro due to a change in management and expressed their desire to stay local and join Coalville Town.

Scott rejoins us after initially having a spell in 2018/2019 when he first relocated down to the Midlands but left after wanting a break from football.

He then joined Nuneaton Borough in 2021 and went on to make 110 appearances as plus became club captain and a real fans favorite.

Being versatile and a natural leader, Scott will add depth to our backline and is coming back with a real point to prove.

Leroy Lita needs no introduction being one of the most famous names playing non-league football at the moment.

After a professional career playing for the likes of Bristol City, Reading, Middlesbrough & Swansea he came into non-league five years ago where we have come up against him playing for Hednesford, Ilkeston & Nuneaton.

A natural number 9 Leroy is now known for his hold up play and aerial prowess despite not being the tallest and has always been a handful whenever playing us, underlined by the fact he scored three goals against the Ravens last year.

Leroy has six league goals to his name so far this season.

A big welcome to both players, we cant wait to see you in the black and white shirt over the coming weeks.

Unfortunately both are cup tied so wont be available until our next league game.

NUNEATON STATEMENT:

Experienced striker decides it’s time to move on.

Regrettably, Leroy Lita has decided to leave the club. This was the experienced striker’s second spell with the Boro after re-signing at the start of this season. To sign a player of his calibre, twice, is a testament to the reputation of Jimmy Ginnelly in non-league football. Lita’s most recent contribution was scoring our first of two goals in the Boro’s 2-2 draw against Hitchin Town on Friday night. Before leaving, Leroy wanted to say the following to the fans:

“Unfortunately, my time at NBFC has come to an end. It’s been a pleasure working with the gaffer, Andy, Jamie, Acca, Hannah and the boys. The gaffer was the main reason for me re-signing and I have so much respect for the work I’ve seen him do over the years for the club. Best of luck to the fans and everyone at the club.”
Leroy

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Leroy for his huge contribution to the team’s performances this season and wish him success for the future.
