‘7 of the top 10 biggest fees in League One’ – Birmingham’s transfer business gets fans talking

‘7 of the top 10 biggest fees in League One’ – Birmingham’s transfer business so far this summer gets many fans talking it seems.

The Blues are tipped to win promotion straight back to the Championship, even more so judging by the signings they’ve made as they prepare for League One.

7 of the biggest fees this summer have all been them including two at 4 million, as per data provided by Transfermarkt, with fans now saying that promotion is a must.

They’ve been focusing on strengthening their squad with a mix of experienced players and promising talents, with their transfer business and the appointment of former Tottenham assistant Chris Davies as their new manager, reflecting a proactive approach to building a competitive squad.

At the top of the list is Christoph Klarer. The 24 year old Austrian defender joins from Darmstadt 98, and unveiled him in the best way, going viral at the same time too as Birmingham amuse fans with hilarious ‘Dumb and Dumber’ inspired transfer announcement video. You can find more about him by tapping HERE.

Birmingham have also signed Willum Thor Willumsson, coming out second in the list above, with the 25-year-old attacking midfielder joining the Blues from Go Ahead Eagles.

He’s agreed terms on a four-year contract at Birmingham City, subject to league, FA and international clearance, after a season where he helped guide his club to a top 10 finish in the Netherlands’ Eredivisie, and defied all expectations to qualify for the UEFA Conference League.

He played 62 times for Go Ahead across two season and scoring 21 goals from midfield.

‘7 of the top 10 biggest fees in League One’ – Birmingham’s transfer business gets fans talking, this is what else they’ve been saying on Twitter…

@TomEd_1999: The owners have played a blinder. Spend the money now without the stringent ffp commitments of the championship. Keep players on decent money and give them incentives for promotion. We are winning the league with a 100 points with a couple more signings in our backline.

@fearlessidzine: ‘BuT WrExHaM aRe BuYiNg tHe LeAgUE….’

@markfrancop: Good on them If they can afford it so they should. Just like wxm should if they can afford it. Let the others cry. Well done to all teams who are run properly.

@sam7751: won’t go up

@MRMAXCB: We have the backing and funds available. Why wouldn’t we do everything we could to ensure an immediate bounce-back? Exciting season ahead for us!

@brumforward: Birmingham city fans : We have extremely rich owners and there’s far fewer financial constraints in League One.
Everyone else: Yeah right.

@MattyGmanc94: Embarrassing if they don’t go up

@foote6_jon: £4mill for a centre back in league 1. Mental

@heyit5sam: Might be sustainable for one season. Huge pressure to win the league with that amount of money being spent. They’ll find out very quickly L1 isn’t a walk in the park

@OscKro: Just getting started

@CormacMurphy5: Imagine they don’t go up with the team they’re building 😅 definitely the favourites

@1864wrexhamafc: If they don’t win it by 15 points…….

@musicbyoneilluk: Knighthead aren’t here to play about and the ambition like most clubs is top tier but not many can execute like they can. Gone from generation little revenue to breaking the teams with parachute payments. Good times are back at the blues

@_1875SHA: Once JJ gets sold it’s 100% net even and tbf we will of made a profit this summer

@Cmchunk62: Be a massive embarrassment for them if they don’t walk the league

@bwfc_elliot: Birmingham still have by far the best squad, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t spent their money poorly. €14 million on those players is ridiculous. Shopping in the free agent market and loans they could easily build the same standard squad for half the price

@RuytonShrew: A reminder of what we’re up against this season. The club we faced in our second friendly today have spent £13 million so far this summer 😳 #Salop

@OrientBraces: They are going to be crying when they lose to the Tinpot O’s.

@brfctom: Spending 4.1 million on a centre half who played 30 games in the Bundesliga last season is gonna be so funny when they inevitably finish 18th 😭

@danlaurentini: Is that right for klarer? Did we actually get relegated, break the league 1 transfer fee record, and one day later, break the league 1 transfer fee record again? I’ve not been this happy as a blues fan since February 2011

@1875j: we’re breaking the league one transfer record every day and divs are tweeting that we aren’t allowed to get excited cos mansfield and cambridge are tough places to go

@DanLewis1999: Birmingham spending over £4m for a CB in league one is absolutely absurd btw.

@rogerroger1616: This is insane. Also take note of who isn’t on this list. Will be interesting to see what is sustainable and what isn’t

@Jase_stokes23: What’s mad is our second choice keeper is on this list 🤣🤣

@JamieSartain94: This can literally only go 1 of 2 ways. If they get promoted then fair play, if they don’t, they are royally fucked! 8 mil on 2 players in league 1 is absolutely insane

@jamesmiskell: As if I already couldn’t be arsed with this season #bwfc

@slovak_football: More than 12 million spent for transfers in the 3rd Division. Football is so dead.

@bwfc714: Birmingham apparently spent nearly £14m on new signings so far this summer. Spending that kind of money at this level, a 100 point return should be a bare minimum.
