10-man Leicester give Charlton their first league away win in 10 games on the road

10-man Leicester give Charlton their first league away win in 10 games on the road, a run that stretched back to October 21st.

Big three points for the Addicks, with goals came from Sonny Carey (36′) and Lyndon Dykes (45+4′), helped by Leicester being reduced to 10 men on 15 minutes after Caleb Okoli’s red card.

A dismal one for Andy King as Leicester’s interim manager, unable to get a response from his side. And to think the club were once Premier League and FA Cup winners in the past decade, now they’re nervously looking over their shoulders at sides in the relegation battle, plus that PSR ruling.

Just 15 minutes in, Charlton sent a long ball forward, with Miles Leaburn making his way past Leicester defender Caleb Okoli on the halfway line, but when clean through on goal, Okoli pulled Leaburn to the ground and was sent off.

Shortly after, Charlton’s Harry Clarke headed the ball into the back of the net from a corner, but was disallowed for a foul on goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk.

Mike Dean on EFL Goal Zone on Soccer Saturday: “It’s an awful decision from the referee. He’s knocked over by his own defender after flapping at the ball.”

On 36 minutes, Sonny Carey controlled a cross which took it over his marker then he volleyed in from close range to put Charlton ahead.

Then on the verge of half time, Lyndon Dykes got onto a cross and doubled the Addicks’ lead with his right foot.

Matt Piper (Former Foxes winger on BBC Radio Leicester): “Andy King looked furious on the sideline. I think he would be well within his rights at half-time to go in their and hold some players to account, kick a few bottles about while he is at it.

“Leicester have shown no passion or aggression in this game. I have heard more noise in the lockdown games we did, and I don’t expect anything from the crowd with this performance.”

Leicester had a huge chance to get themselves back into the game, when they were awarded a penalty when Abdul Fatawu was pulled down inside the box. Ayew stepped up for the spot kick and sent the ball against the left post.

Charlton made changes to help them regain control of the game after Leicester had a strong 20 minute period since the restart.

There were ironic cheers from the Leicester fans when Ayew was subbed off with just over 10 minutes remaining in the second half.

Charlton fans sang “we are staying up” after the final whistle, their side’s 2-0 win sees them move away from trouble, while also putting pressure on the likes of Blackburn, Portsmouth and West Brom.

Charlton are now within three points of the managerless Leicester who are only nine points above the drop-zone ahead of the 3pm kick offs.

Here’s how social media users reacted as 10-man Leicester give Charlton their first league away win in 10 games on the road…

@booko67: The type of manager needed to get this lot playing isn’t available anywhere because he doesn’t exist and if he did he already have a job at a successful club so why would he want to come to our shit show of a club #lcfc

@MarkgLcfc: You can plan, train all week & have a game plan, but when one of your players makes a brain dead decision after 15 minutes, what chance do you have. That said, it’s shambolic again. We’re not a team, strangers in blue shirts, no leaders. Perfect storm , league 1 awaits #lcfc

@Wilson_1605: Absolutely diabolical today again. These players don’t care an aren’t good enough. We’re likely to go without a points deduction #lcfc

@KR_SEOK36: You think you need fans to support you this season? You should be grateful for the fans who’ve been supporting you all along and change your mentality. Just like Lyon fans shouted at their players, our entire squad needs to stand in front of the fans and take some hard truths

@cleavel09: League 1 incoming. An owner too immature and ignorant too it happening in front of his eyes.

@BRFC1875_: You were competing in the top of the prem, winning trophies and playing in Europe, an absolute disgrace what top and rudkin have done to Leicester. You lot deserve better

@THENUNEATONFOX: Well… that couldn’t have gone any terrible than it was. Okolis silly red card, 2 goals that could have been 3 had the ref not ruled the other one out and injury to Hamza and Ayew missing a penalty. The aim is not to get relegated because that could happen. #LCFC

@DAZM4N_LCFC: Man am I glad im not there today. Waste of time, waste of money. Useless excuses for footballers. #lcfc

@richjacques10: Just when think things can’t get any worse. Yet another dreadful performance. Players just not interested. Don’t ever want to see Ayew in the shirt again. Play most of the season with him as the main striker and you’re asking for a relegation battle!

@rabiocalicheio: Andy King is not to be blamed for anything in this game. He completely hid Charlton with 1 player down, Ayew missed the penalty.

@GilesKristian: Sad to watch a mismanaged, leaderless club, with players who play like it doesn’t mean anything to them. #LCFC 😕

@rudfoxes0205: Different Manager, same outcome, squad needs a major overhaul, which financially won’t happen, LCFC will get relegated with this same broken defence & two strikers that can’t score. Winks seems the only player with a footballing brain, we’re in big trouble @LCFC @BBCRLSport #LCFC

@Daniel__Orme: #LCFC really have hit rock bottom now – and it’s product of the dismal way the club has been run. The squad is poor, the players don’t know what they’re doing and it’s only going one way – relegation, with or without a points deduction. 🦊
