CLUB STATEMENT:
York City FC can confirm that first-team manager David Webb has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.
We would like to thank David for his efforts over the last few months and wish him all the best for the future.
The club has commenced its search for a new manager, and we will bring further communication on who will take interim charge in due course.
David Webb assured fans that he does ‘understand their frustration’, after his side fell to 18th in the National League table following defeat to Solihull Moors.
The Minstermen did originally lead through Shaq Forde, however, two goals in just two minutes from Joe Sbarra and Andrew Dallas saw the Moors take the advantage.
Olly Dyson got a leveller, then Mark Beck sent his header in on the 82nd minute to hand Neal Ardley’s side all three points.
Supporters took aim at Webb and majority owner Glen Henderson with chants for the pair to leave the club and booing that Webb took note of.
“I understand their frustrations because if any manager is in a bad situation and doesn’t win football games you are under pressure.” Webb explained, as per York Press.
“It’s up and down the country, I get it.
“So I get their frustrations, we were just disappointed we couldn’t get a win tonight because we felt coming into the first half we could do it.
“We’re here to win football games and if we don’t win football games then we have got to take criticism.
“It’s part of life, any football manager would tell you that and I’m no different.
“The fans are going to voice their frustartions if we lose and obviously the position we are in at the minute. So of course, I am going to be upset.
“We’ve got to keep going, we have got to keep going.” Webb added.
“We’ve definitely got enough in the squad and we’re starting to score, like the two goals tonight, but we’ve got to stop conceding soft goals.
“To be honest it would be better if we had another league game so we can put it right really quick. Just to try and get the points.
“If we can win on Saturday and get ourselves through to the next stages of the FA Trophy then at least it gives us a bit of momentum.”
This is what fans said as York City sack another manager as fan unrest grows stronger…
@McQuadeYork: The first positive decision the club has made in a LONG time.
@yorkhospball: The right decision. Sacking an experienced, proven manager at the level and replacing him with someone of the total opposite was an experiment that predictably didn’t work. Now let’s salvage this season
@bixie2016: Worth stressing none of this is David Webb’s fault. Blame lies totally with those who wishfully thought you could do something too clever by half in appointing a talent scout/soccernomics type
@bixie2016: Can someone with powers please leverage the return of Askey….
@biggins_louis: Bring askey back!!!!
@YorkCityFCTR:
This great news for our bad days ❤️.
WE’RE YORK CITY!!!!
OUR CLUB, OUR CITY, OUR RULES!!!
#YCFC | #YCFCTR
@PaulDoughty1: No surprise. The club (or should I say owner) made a big mistake in sacking John Askey previously. @YorkCityFC #ycfc
@GarryVaux: Thank goodness for that. He’ll go back to talent scouting/coaching no doubt. He won’t be in management again I reckon #ycfc #askeyin
@Ben_YCFCsankey: I don’t think I’ve ever see a fan base so bamboozled by one sacking and then so unified in another 😂, let’s get someone in for Wealdstone #ycfc
@Dan19451945: WE WANT ASKEY BACK!!!!!!!
@mattrushbrooke: You’ll do well to find many worse managerial appointments than David Webb to York. Only appointed 44 days ago, and finally put out of his misery this afternoon. Let’s hope it’s not too late and the new manager can steer the club from their current downward trajectory #ycfc
@AndrewSlaughte1: There’s a bloke called John Askey who wouldn’t be a bad shout 👀
@liamsurgenor: Where’s big johns phone number give him a call
@discodenkelly: Long overdue, no, shouldn’t have been appointed…..hopefully we can find someone to take this shit show on…
@VortecHD: Thank fuck. Can we get someone with even the slightest bit of managerial experience this time
@Dave_Hughes: Let’s be right, he should never have been manager in the first place but he’s now gone! #ycfc
@Yorktone: should never have been manager in the first place – please do something sensible now #ycfc * *I realise that’s unlikely but…
@moxon_will: Wow didn’t see this coming so soon. Unless the rumours of a new owner coming in this week are true and they got rid now before the new owner did #YCFC
