York City owner calls out ‘clown’ Mark Goldbridge for being in favour of FA Cup changes

York City owner Matt Uggla calls out ‘clown’ Mark Goldbridge for being in favour of the controversial changes made to the FA Cup.

The FA confirmed that FA Cup replays from the first round proper have been scrapped from next season; all rounds will be played on weekends, exclusive of Premier League fixtures; the final has been moved to penultimate weekend of season; and the Premier League are to increase lower-league funding to £133m per season.

@markgoldbridge tweeted: “I’m glad they’re getting rid of FA Cup replays. Way too many games and minutes being played by the top players. Yes it’s harsh on the lower leagues but the 3pm blackout is a joke in 2024 and they still have that”

@matt_uggla replied: “What part of Manchester is this clown from? Or did he sellout like most of them? That would explain a lot here… 🤡”

Mark Goldbridge said in a video: “Breaking news. They’re getting rid of replays from round one next season. Obviously, all the big teams coming in round three, which means no more replays. Yabba dabba do! This is great.”

Will Brazier said to him: “We are just catering for the 1%. Again, the elite in football are benefiting from this. The FA Cup is a competition that is not for the elite, its for the all of football. And again, I just think its like the FA bowing down to the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, for what is the most famous international cup competition, domestic in the world. And I just don’t understand it. There’s clubs that have built their whole future on FA cup replays. Was it Burton Albion? Man United played at Old Trafford, completely changed their future around. So we’re just denying clubs of this great, fantastic sort of ceremony. Getting on TV, you discover new players, you discover new games. It’s not about the top six. Even though we bang on about it on this podcast, I just don’t understand it at all.”

Mark Goldbridge in another video says: “Ten Hag said. ‘It’s very sad for the British football culture, but its also inevitable it’s due to the overload in the schedule that’s dictated to by FIFA and UEFA.’ Well, I’m completely with ten Hag on this. It is sad that the FA cup replays have been binned off. I remember in 1990, young Bridge Oldham FA cup semi final went to a replay. I remember the final Crystal palace. Same year the final went to a replay. We played, I think we played Saturday against Crystal Palace. Drew, the replay was on the Wednesday. The good old days, the bad old days, whatever you want to call it. But you know, replays can be quite dramatic and enjoyable, but you can’t. We can’t keep. We can’t keep playing these players to this extent. It’s too much football. Too much football.”

As you can imagine, a huge amount of fans on social media had their say while the York City owner calls out ‘clown’ Mark Goldbridge for showing support towards the FA Cup changes…

@JuceeRob: Spoken like a true modern armchair fan from the YouTube generation. Expect nothing less from someone who doesn’t go to games.

@AlbionSmudge: Ridiculous but wholly expected take by a big 6 fan.

@ToonReviewStato: You are so out of touch it’s unreal

@ShaunVincent85: Christ, so naive to our Pyramid system, how it works and how clubs survive, but bless those mega rich Clubs and big squads with £100m players who couldnt get the job done in 90mins! Helmet

@johnMyaWilliams: Fake fan. Sit watching every game on a screen so of course it don’t effect you. Without us who attend there is no game.

@KeironUTC: Awful take. League One/Two teams play 46 league games, a minimum of 3 FA Trophy games, and a minimum of two cup games with the EFL and FA Cup. The top clubs have enough money and SHOULD have developed their youth academy enough to where they have PLENTY of players to rotate…

@jakobbayes1: When was the last time u watched football in a ground?

@Teds_Tours27: So you’d do away with both the replays and the black out? Why don’t we just get rid of the lower leagues in full? When you actually go to games, I’ll take your opinion serious. Get back on your chair in front of your little screen and keep shouting into it.

@smithy918816377: How about if players and managers moaning about being tired they don’t jet off thousands of miles for pre season, just to get more cash. Football at the top levels is a joke, its meant to be a sport now is just about the money

@AaronJ94386976: I swear you used to support nottingham forest

@WILLYHAHN71: L1/L1 play a minimum of 51 games, is a more pure form of football, no tourist fans, no plastic armchair fans. Prem clubs have 0 community presence. 100 extra fans at Accie, Carlisle etc means a huge difference. FA has sold its sole.

@Ben_Benneyworth: Just remind everyone the last time you went to Old Trafford? Didn’t you used to work for Solihull Moors aswell? I honestly expected better from you.

@BlazeMeister78: Premier League – 38 league games per season. Championship / League 1 / League 2 – 46 league games per season. But Premier League players need a rest… 🥴🤦‍♂️

@DN9_Minsterman: I bet the big 6 will still go on their tours of USA post season etc so they don’t miss out on a sponsor or a wad load of cash.

@woodend_c: When something is removed after such a long time there is no rational argument and only a selfish opinion prevails. I like most people love the game but it’s being spoilt by a small number of clubs.

@WellsyOs: But the “top players” don’t always feature in the earlier rounds and it gives a chance for other members of the Clubs’ squads to shine.

@proudbutnot: Spoken like a true armchair supporter of one of the elites

@worldofquiche: They don’t have to pick their “top players” – play some of their “up and coming” players.

@shush_mystery0: I’m not entirely sure if this is a valid point, but top tier sides play much more intense football, with more speed pace in play, possibly leading to tiredness, and the reason injuries have increased drastically. Just a thought

@LiamK1998_: Should we scrap European football it’s just too many games

@LeeBee_76: Spoken like a proper wank top 6 supporter 👍🏼

@tom_mcconnon_: I’m sorry Mark but I totally disagree, however I do support a national league side and have seen what with my own eyes what a cup run did for us.

@GanderflankerUK: W*nker

@LynnoJay: Efl & non league clubs have bigger pile up of fixtures if they go further into cups unlike the top prem sides, 60+ games a season if a non league side goes far into it. Yet your complaining get a grip & leave the competition alone

@Hopey_Media: Mark, think about your local, @SolihullMoors. They will suffer from this. United won’t but you must protect the lower leagues. Income will massively be lost here, imagine the exposure and attendances they can earn from the replays. Honestly mate don’t be a part of the problem.

@Ethan_SHDWSML:
League 1 & 2 play:
– 46 games a season
– FA Cup from the 1st Round
– League Cup
– EFL Trophy
– Playoffs
All without the international breaks. But sure it’s the top players playing too much…

@Colbyw1992: ‘Harsh’ for lower league clubs doesn’t come close. The gate revenue and potential television coverage can cover a clubs wages for the season. It’s kept some afloat. But yeah let’s help the billionaire clubs who could rotate their team every other game with no issues.

@KevinOxford: The FA Cup isn’t about top players, it’s about all players, all fans, all clubs. If this rule comes in maybe all league clubs should enter in the 1st round. A few bob must have passed hands to get this agreed.

@EverMore_NUFC: Can’t say I’m surprised to hear you say this. Why bother about lower league teams eh? When it’s the PL that matters & only that. Elitest view from the velvet seats. Football matters… at all levels!

@ChrisMartin_93: I mean if I didn’t want to have to deal with a replay with my multimillion pound squad I would simply win the first game so we didn’t need to play one

@crimp_it: Where are you calling for top teams to stop touring US & Asia to reduce matches and player workload ?

@aroundgroundsss: He sits in a room watching a game and I’ve never ever seen him at a game. So to him he’s not arsed about lower league clubs. The English football pyramid is special and we need to protect it.

@BillyBy17: Nottingham Forest Fan who never goes to games and now makes a living by watching games on tv from home whilst proclaiming to be a Man Utd fan ⬆️

@JimAnker1980: The only thing that’s a joke is you. You’ve never stepped foot in a ground. Armchair fan, worse thing is the powers that be pander to you lot rather than match going fans. There are non league players who are playing 4 games a week at this time of the season on top of a job
