Yerry Mina confronts angry Everton fans as Southampton mock the Toffees supporters’ firework attempt with a hilarious hotel review.
Frank Lampard’s side fell to a 2-1 defeat against the Saints on Saturday afternoon, with heavy boos heard come the final whistle.
Everton went ahead at Goodison Park through Amadou Onana, however, they saw all three points slip away following a James Ward-Prowse double including a beauty of a free-kick.
Thousands of Everton supporters stayed inside Goodison Park to stage a protest against the running of the club – with some frustration later spilling onto the streets.
Campaigners remained in all four stands after the final whistle in a peaceful demonstration that underlined the strength of feeling among sections of the fanbase. Some unfurled banners, messages upon which included ‘Kenwright & Co, it’s time to go’ and ‘back the team, sack the regime’.
Stretches of gloomy silence were broken by the celebrations of the remaining away supporters after Southampton became the fourth side in a row to win at Goodison, as well as chants of ‘sack the board’ and ‘you’re not fit to run the club’ from protesters. The demonstration later spilled onto the streets surrounding the ground, where fans unfurled banners amid a significant police presence in the area and with video footage showing supporters speaking with centre-back Yerry Mina.
The defender was heard telling fans “I will give my life for this club”. Mina seemingly had to get out of his car as he tried to leave the ground, with some supporters surrounding his vehicle. Cries of “let him leave” and “he’s got a kid in his car” could be heard in one clip widely shared on social media.

Southampton meanwhile decided to post a hilarious TripAdvisor review, and it comes after a group of Toffees fans tried to disrupt preparations for the crucial six-pointer by setting off fireworks outside of their hotel during the early hours of Saturday morning.
It seems however that it did not have the desired impact, as the Saints won at Goodison Park.
The TripAdvisor post reads: “We can’t say enough positive things about the Innside By Melia Liverpool! Had an important business trip to attend in the city and they were perfect hosts. The hotel ensured we were looked after and well-rested for our meeting, which was an extremely productive one.
“Rooms were brilliant, beds were incredibly comfy, and the blackout blinds and triple glazing… oh wow! You could literally have a firework display going on outside your window and you’d never know it. Best night’s sleep we’ve ever had!
“In fact, the only rocket we noticed all weekend was the one James Ward-Prowse sent into the net in the 78th minute at Goodison. We’ll definitely be returning again.”

Andre Onana netted his first goal of his Everton career and James Ward-Prowse turned the tide in the second period by scoring twice; the Saints captain is only two off David Beckham’s record after scoring 16th free-kick; Everton fans staged a post-match protest.
Southampton manager Nathan Jones: “It has been a big week after the Forest defeat and the negativity surrounding that. Three competitions, three wins – massive, massive week.
“We had to really dig deep today they were a very physically strong side – very direct. It reminded me of a Championship game really. Once we got to grips with that I thought we were the better team. A dream week, really.
“To get the goal straight after half-time was key. When you see a team give you everything that’s what you want as a manager.”
On James Ward-Prowse he added: “He’s outstanding. He’s very, very special. Some of the stuff he does in training is phenomenal so I know what he’s capable of.”
Everton manager Frank Lampard said after the game: “There’s no question about the effort or passion of the team. Two teams fighting it out with a lot of tension in the game. It wasn’t a beautiful football match, it was more about spirit and effort.
“They get their two goals – the quality of James Ward-Prowse. We have to take responsibility. We have to do better. Our home form shows where we are in the table.
“It’s a difficult time, we know that. My job is to prepare the team to try and get the right result. We didn’t do that – we have to look at the reasons why. It was a stressful game, a tight game.
“When you take this job you understand the nature of it. We want to get things right. While I’m here I’ll try and do the best thing for the team.”
Twitter users reacted as Yerry Mina confronts angry Everton fans while Southampton mock the Toffees supporters’ firework attempt with a hotel review…
@DanStevo85: Absolutely ridiculously when someone who is clearly after a reaction and someone always has to stick a camera in their face. Embarrassing
@TheRobVera: This is beyond cringe-y.
@krisgavin: Toxic fan base
@AnthonyMiller25: What was gonna happen if he didn’t have a kid in the car?
@5eanOConnor: I’m feeling so despondent about the current state of affairs. My 50 years of supporting this club, through thick and thin, of tested patience and frayed nerves. But this is another level and my pride is turning to embarrassment and sadness.
@Roryhanna45: Setting up road blocks on the exit to harass players… now that’s a new low. Yes fans deserve an answer but can you not see its the managers fault.
@andr361971: Sorry but what the hell? I’m so embarrassed.
@Carl_F88: Most toxic fanbase around
@Shellbells174: Had his kids in the car. Shameful
@SeanHedderman: Road block and stopping a player leaving the area but only let him go once you know he’s got a kid? Hopefully this lot get relegated
@LazyHeartParade: why did they have to say “he’s got a kid in the car” what the hell were they planning to do??? Intimidating the players at this point is despicable behaviour.
@Richard30878776: Fair play to him for standing there, but let’s remember these fans love their club, players come and go!
@Daniel_UTV: I love passion from fans, but please don’t touch players, don’t poke them, it’s intimidating behaviour. Some adult should of got a hold on this, told the lads to back off and have a productive conversation. Fair play to the player saying he’d die for the club, this was sketchy.
@michaeldoran_: Fair play to Mina indeed. Imagine you are a player who Everton are trying to sign in January watching videos of their unused subs with kids in the car getting harassed like this 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
@DanAbbott_BC: And not a single word of english was said
@calmac4: Grown men blocking streets because their football team lost. Have they forgotten it’s a just sport? Embarrassing. Surely they have actual problems in their own lives they could employ this level of energy & purpose to? I love football, I love my team, but this is just sad.
@gamblingdiary2: He’s from Columbia he ain’t scared of nothing 🤣
@daveatmosshill: This is part of the Everton problem. Mina should never have been exposed like that. Who is behind the scenes showing leadership telling the players to wait an hour or so? It’s a sad demise of a once great club.
