Yeovil player Alex Fisher puts life in perspective with Twitter thread after horror ankle injury

Yeovil player Alex Fisher puts life in perspective with a touching Twitter thread after being on the end of a horror ankle injury.

The National League game was unfortunately overshadowed after being halted by the incident, and everyone’s thoughts were with the injured Glovers player.

Fisher, 32, was stretchered off the pitch with Shrimpers goalkeeper Collin Andeng Ndi seen looking emotional after what happened.

Fans called for emergency medical attention with Fisher screaming on the ground holding his ankle.

To block fans’ view, a group of stewards stood in front of the player during his treatment.

BT Sport confirmed that the Yeovil player was rushed to the hospital with a suspected broken ankle.

Fisher tweeted days after: “I am truly humbled by everyone who has reached out in the last 24 hours!

“Your messages of warmth and support have kept me going through a difficult time. I hope to be out of hospital in the next couple days with my focus turning to supporting the team and my recovery 💪 ♥️💚⚪”

“I must also say a massive thank you to all the medical staff that looked after me during this whole process, from all involved at @YTFC to the staff at Yeovil hospital and everyone in-between.

“I’ve been blown away by everyone’s love, support and care!”

Hee’s now written out a Twitter thread, which you can read below…

He wrote: “🧵- A threat on@YeovilHospital, Bristol Royal Infirmary and the @NHSuk… with a touch of football (Paragraphs split into:) ⚪🟢⚪

“On Saturday I had the humbling experience of a ’tis just a scratch’ injury (probably the favourite Monty Python meme I received on twitter) & was taken to Yeovil Hospital where I witnessed the beyond amazing job that is performed on a daily basis from top to bottom 🟢

“But before I start it’s appropriate to say that when being in a hospital for more than a few hours you quickly realise you are literally dealing with life and death all round so I offer these words and thanks with that heavily in mind. 🟢

“I came across many people who are in far worse situations than me expressing their concern for my situation over their own because of their love for YTFC. I can’t find the words to express how this feels. ⚪

“During my couple days in ‘Ward 6A’, I had the pleasure of meeting many’a Glover – be it patients on my ward, or the amazing staff… (Ps, Trevor I hope you got good use of my zimmer frame) ⚪

“…Whilst I’ve always been very aware I’m not just representing the football club, but a community as a whole, I wasn’t prepared for it to sink in just how far this reach truly goes. 🟢

“I spoke with people who are; life long season ticket holders; regular supporters; people who have family and friends that travel many miles to catch a home game; others that go to one off games & plenty others that follow the results and feed off the success of #YTFC ⚪

“I know and recognise that each game is of utmost importance but my overriding feeling now is that each result (or at least committed performance) reaches further than I ever gave credit for and the success of a football club touches the lives of people beyond… ⚪

“…the fans present in the stadium and the immediate community. I urge my teammates and players nationwide to remember that every time they pull their shirts on! The same sentiment is true for each clubs up and down the country! Football is more than just a game! 🟢

“On Monday evening I was transferred to BRI where I was scheduled for an operation on Wednesday (yesterday) & where I’ll stay until Friday. I echo the same level of thanks and appreciation to all that I’ve interacted with since being here at BRI… 🟢

“…Again, it’s hard to express in words what a credit everyone has been to their profession with their outstanding level of care.

“Each and every step of the preparation for my operation was done with care and a professional hand – thoroughly reassuring when going through this kind of experience. ⚪

“During this whole process, I have too many people to thank at YH and BRI and whilst I can only offer this one size fits all message, I hope these words of appreciation reach every individual involved. 🟢

“No one should need reminding what an amazing service the NHS is but my goodness this did just that! I’ve had 2 X-rays, a CT scan, an operation, a bed for 7 days, 3 meals a day, assistance at the press of a button, a transfer between hospitals, physio and an aftercare plan! 🟢

“(For transparency, I’ve made way for any pressing emergency that has come in given the nature of my injury not being life threatening and all of the above was achieved outside of people that required immediate emergency attention) 🟢

“If it wasn’t for having this service available along with the quick thinking medical staff at YTFC, my injury could have been a life changing event. We must protect this incredible infrastructure we so often take for granted.”
