Yeovil bans fans who post ‘negative comments’ about club and chairman on social media

National League side Yeovil Town impose banning orders to fans who post ‘negative comments’ about club on social media.

This week, emails and letters were sent out, issuing two-year banning orders to supporters who post “negative comments and remarks” about the club or its chairman, Martin Hellier, online, particularly on Twitter.

This decision in handing out a two-year ban from attending matches or entering club premises, has sparked significant backlash among fans.

The letter issued to fans this week reads:

28th March 2025

Dear _____________

“Following a thorough review of your recent conduct on the social media platform X, we are writing to inform you that, as a result of your negative comments and remarks regarding Yeovil Town Football Club and the Club’s Chairman, the decision has been made to impose a banning order on you.

“This order prohibits you from attending any matches, events, or entering the premises associated with the Club, with immediate effect.

“Your comments have caused significant disruption and created an environment that is not conducive to the values and reputation of the Club.

“As such, you are hereby prohibited from entering the Club’s stadium, training facilities, and any other properties associated with Yeovil Town Football Club.

“This ban will remain in place for a period of 2 years from the date of this letter.

“We ask that you consider this matter seriously. We trust you understand the severity of this issue and the necessity of maintaining a respectful environment at Yeovil Town Football Club.

“Sincerely, Yeovil Town Football Club”

HLTCO came across this and wrote: “Yeovil Town are banning their supporters from attending home games for comments they’re making about the ownership on social media. An absolute disgrace in every sense.

“Just been given a crash course in Martin Hellier, the owner and chairman of Yeovil Town by @hoopsss & @JordanAJlynk.

“He’s the absolute opposite of the sort of person who should be running a football club.

“I’ve just been speaking to @SamCollardUK, he worked for the club on a voluntary basis for years, did countless 50+ hour weeks on minimum wage and was on the receiving end of the post in the second screenshot from Martin Hellier. He seems totally unhinged.”

This is the Twitter reaction after Yeovil bans fans who post ‘negative comments’ about the club and their chairman on social media…

@Camiller26: @YTFC been saying it for years best thing to do is fold the club. Unrecognisable from ten years ago. Players are shit. Gaffer is shit. Clubs shit.

@SheptonSnapper: You’ve got to feel sorry for the head of media at this point. Waking up to their work phone notifications beeping like a reversing lorry knowing they need to go to work to repeat “I know, I know, they don’t get you” #YTFC #HellierOut #SupportTheTeamNotTheRegime

@MufcWonItAll2: This is actually insane man. Yeovil Town have banned a fan for 2 years for making negative comments towards the chairman on Twitter. That’s outrageous @YTFC

@SamuelCol1115: Hellier is a disgrace of a football owner The god complex he has is disgusting, treating fans like this whilst running a football club into the ground is criminal Need to spread the word about this because its owners like this who kill the game of football we all love

@BenPrie70484955: I didn’t like Martin Hellier from day one…. likewise I don’t like Cooper. I’ve never been more miserable to be proven right #YTFC

@vinnywhufc: What @YTFC are doing to their supporters who dared to criticise the chairman is a disgrace. Embarrassing and the shame it is causing the club is outrageous. How blinded by arrogance must an owner be to think this is correct? Disgusting.

@dannyyoung35: The way your club is treating your supporters who dare to speak their mind is an absolute disgrace and brings shame on your club. Shame on you. Are you going to ban me? Shouldn’t worry, I am not a Yeovil supporter, now will I ever visit your ground.

@heyit5sam: I mean they have every right to be critical? They’ve sank from the championship all the way down into the 6th tier at one stage. How does that even happen without mis management from the top

@itstangerine: So freedom of speech and the right to express your opinion is clearly not allowed in Yeovil lol is the chairman of primary age? He will taking the ball home next

@CallumHallett6
To put everything into perspective… Last year, #YTFC lost a total of £2.8 million, despite being in the lows of the National League South. In the last few weeks, owner, Martin Hellier, has slated every fan who questions + criticises his awful ownership + banned the ones who question consistency. An absolute disgrace who should be nowhere near a football club. If you can attend the game tomorrow, make your feeling known. Protests are needed. Hellier out.

@katej1984: Yeovil used to be a brilliant underdog club. Enjoyed my visits there with Lincoln, and it’s a massive shame what’s happened to them over the last decade. It’s a massive warning to every club that appoints a clusterc*nt as chairman

@ytfcwattsy: Owning a football club is about looking after something bigger. It’s the history, community, and keeping the club alive for future generations. Fans are forever. The ship has sailed, but it’s a shame this was so easily and quickly forgotten. #ytfc 💚🧤

@BeAl3r: Can’t write it can you. Didn’t realise it was now against the rules to be critical. Chairman has the fragility of a newborn child. A club is nothing without its fanbase. We survived one muppet chairman. We will survive another. #ytfc

@Mufc_Digler: Absolute state of @YTFC 🤮

@jkanalysis7: Martin Hellier is a disgrace. If the ownership gets questioned or anything that goes against Yeovil on social media, he bans the fans (banned a lot) It won’t be too far off the time where the players play infront of next to no one due to him Shame this, I really like Yeovil

@mattgoode11: Just been reading a bit on this situation. Football clubs are nothing without fans and those paying their money have the right to question and or criticise how things are being run #YTFC
