Wrexham fan on his stag do tackled by steward when celebrating Paul Mullin winner

A Wrexham fan on his stag do ended up getting tackled by a steward when celebrating the Paul Mullin winner on Saturday afternoon.

The Cambridge United legend came up late again, scoring a spot kick in injury time to secure his side another dramatic win for Wrexham after they twice fell to Eastleigh.

The Spitfires’ Danny Whitehall surprised home fans hitting an opener midway through the first half, with Aaron Hayden equalising for the hosts just a minute later.

Whitehall put Eastleigh back in front in the 65th minute, but Mullin levelled with 13 minutes left on the clock as the Welsh outfit sensed another dramatic late victory.

Then Mullin scored a penalty five minutes into injury time, to help keep Wrexham in second place and five points behind leaders Stockport County while Eastleigh dropped a place to 19th in the National League standings.

Moments after Paul Mullin slotted the winning penalty, a pitch invader in full kit gave the stewards a run for their money.

He rushed onto the field of play with pace, before doing some sidesteps and dummied some lunges from the stewards, but was finally taken down from one member of the security.

It did however produce some lighthearted laughs while the culprit was dragged off.

Dave Jones, the pitch invader, said after the game via Facebook: “I’d like to apologise to all the fans and players today for invading the pitch! Emotions were high and I was celebrating my stag do! Didn’t mean to cause any offence but I love this club so much! UTST”

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson spoke after the game: “It was a bitty game. After the 6-0 against Barnet, Eastleigh were always going to come here and try to disrupt the game. I didn’t think the ref helped.

“Were we at our best in terms of quality? No. But you have got to find way to win and that’s what the lads have done in terrific fashion.

“I am so proud of the boys. We stood strong as a group again.

“I didn’t even watch [the penalty]. I just looked at the crowd and was waiting for the reaction. When the crowd went up, I was so pleased.”

There was plenty of reaction as the Wrexham fan on his stag do gets tackled by a steward when celebrating the Paul Mullin winner…

@wxm_mol: Steward number 68 needs recharging at half time to maintain optimum power 🤣 His batteries appear to be running low by the 96th minute

@podders1981: What an absolute bell end. We seem to get a pitch invader every week and these silly shits will cause us problems before the season ends!

@stevorico: All part of the fun pal!

Gaz Trow: Fair play you made my little lads day, apart from the win. It was the 1st thing he told his mum laughing his head off. Enjoy your stag and wedding pal
