Halifax ‘fooligan’ throws a punch at Woking fan before legging it

An FC Halifax Town ‘fooligan’ throws a punch at Woking fan before legging it after Saturday afternoon’s National League fixture at The Shay.

Footage was uploaded to social media, showing the culprit throwing a fist and then ran away when security / police arrived.

The Halifax supporters club Twitter account was tagged in the video as views starting racking up before the post was deleted as soon as it got more and more attention.

A tweet was published, with it captioned: “Captain Swing and run 🤣 #halifaxtownfc @halifaxtown @halifaxtownsc 🏃🏃🏃”

As can be heard in the video, a group of lads are watching on before making their way home, lapping it up before being surprised at the swinging punch and then the laugh hysterically when the ‘fooligan’ runs off away from getting caught.

The game itself saw Matty Warburton get on the scoresheet twice as the 10-man Shaymen held on to beat Woking 2-1 and strengthen their National League playoff hopes.

Deadlock broke just 10 minutes in when Warburton opened the scoring from the penalty spot before doubling Halifax’s lead in the 62nd minute after being played through on goal.

However the home side were left nervous when the visitors goalkeeper Sam Johnson pulled off an acrobatic save to deny Inih Effiong.

Woking then got a goal back when Max Kretzschmar was scored a 75th-minute penalty after Jess Debrah challenged Effiong in the box, and then the hosts had Martin Woods sent off for a late challenge.

Woking went close to getting an equaliser deep into added time with keeper Johnson called to produced a series of saves including one to deny Nicke Kabamba.

After his side’s 2-1 win over Woking, manager Pete Wild spoke to Shaymen TV to give his thoughts on the game.

“It was certainly a battle,” Wild said. “They were very physical and we knew they would be. They did everything they could to try and get in the referee’s ear and they were very successful at that. It was a really tough afternoon’s work.”

“A clear penalty, he’s hand-balled it,” Wild told Shaymen TV on the first penalty. “I think it settled us down so I’m really glad we scored early. It’s about time we scored early which helps settle the nerves down. They threw a lot at us today, they couldn’t have thrown much more really, and for once luck is on our side.”

“He’s unbelievable,” Wild said on keeper Sam Johnson. “He’s made so many important saves today. He’s said to me over the past couple of games that he sometimes feels he hasn’t done anything but I’ve always told him we will need him at some point. We’ve needed him in abundance today and the big man has come up smelling of roses, so I’m dead pleased.”

Halifax travel to Altrincham for the Good Friday game before hosting Chesterfield on Monday.

“It’ll be another great contest,” Wild added Shaymen TV. “It was a great game against them here earlier this season. We’ve got to go there and express ourselves. I’m sure they are looking at us wanting to get one over on us. But we’ll prepare right, we’ve got a lot of food for thought, we’re really excited about the Easter weekend and we go into the game in good form.”

Twitter reaction:

@ForeverAYellow: That Halifax ‘fooligan’ throws a punch at Woking fan before legging it, wtf was that all about

@MartinL75279040: Absolutely gobsmacked that @wokingfc fans feel hard done to today. The players bitched and moaned at that ref, in numbers, all through the 1st half (normal when we play them) everytime they got or conceded a decision! Different players, same outcome. Division apart will suit all!

@kevheaton: How bloody good!!!! was SJ today, Our defence was collectively on form as usual, but Sam would have walked the MOTM if it had been chosen after the full 98 mins. Stupendous display that man 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

@TJMBlackGuy: GET INNNNN 💙💙💙

@HollingdrakeTom: That ref was a disgrace, great win tho UTS 💙

@NewMillPaul: Cracking match at the Shay this afternoon. Woking somehow leave without a point, but were unlucky not to leave with all three #fcht rode their luck but are sitting pretty in third #htafc

@maher_rodney: Great result today Shaymen

👏👏👏

@positiveshaymen: @FCHTOnline Well done to the team, they’ve won it on their own today, they got nothing from the fans, at all, those that could be bothered to attend, that is. I will ALWAYS be positive about the team and the club, but the fans? Do better. 👍

@AussieShaymen: We were bullied by Woking. They were effective without having many chances until the sending off. We looked so lethargic today, but got the win. Take it and move on.

@AdamCFC22: Did not deserve that. Dreadful refs only won because the linesman gave a pen for nothing

@seth_quayle: Cheers for 6 points lads shithouse club x

@Andrewmann0408: One of the most loathsome team performances of diving, ref surrounding and general shit housing ive ever seen at the Shay, shame as you were a half decent team. Ah well cheers for 6 points! Hopefully that little twat number 3 learns the rules going forward for you!

@Jparvin11: So why did you need the linesman to gift you a penalty to scrape the win, Andrew?

@Andrewmann0408: Dont get me wrong mate, woking better team, but must admit some of your teams antics were disgusting. Literally surrounded the ref over every single decision.
