Ian Lavery MP said: “Speaker, Blyth Spartans in my constituency is arguably the most famous non league club in the UK, arguably the now up for sale, with the current chairman failing to deliver on promises made and engaged transparently and openly with his supporters.
“Does my honourable friend agree with me that non league football clubs are at the heart of the communities and that engagement with supporters is critical to the ongoing survival?”
He tweeted along with a video of the speech made: “Blyth Spartans is an iconic football club at the heart of our community and its supporters key to its future success. When institutions like this change hands we need the Government to keep a watchful eye to make sure that our history and community is protected.”

Blyth Spartans up for sale, 180 days after take over as chairman criticises boycotts and protests
Here’s how fans reacted amid Worrying times as the Northern Premier League issue a statement with Blyth Spartans’ next two games postponed…
@Leetheyakker: And to think my club Hartlepool united some of our fans want us to be taken over by anyone honestly scares me especially what the club went through when we got took over years ago , itβs never good to see and really hope you get sorted soon lads
@Shakershak80932: As a Bury FC fan I really hope this is sorted out quickly
@Michael14585755:
I remember the great FA Cup run your club had in 1978.
Hope for better times ahead for the loyal fans.
I follow all non-league and support my home town team Bromley FC ( 54 years now ) and my local team Grantham Town ( 6 years )
@MickCordukes: Another great club being run into the ground by an owner that doesn’t care or understand the club . I hope Spartans can pull through this and get a new owner that asap .
@QuakerPete: It’s a crying shame what has happened to this proud club – can only hope that any new owner with the backing of the fans can rescue it.
@JoannePowell14: Too many times do we hear about stalwart volunteers resigning due to actions of new owners who have no idea about running a non league club and upset those who keep the club running. They all think they are Ryan Reynolds!
@AndyClarke5: Absolute mess. Got to feel for the fans
@cmacd57: Can remember seeing people’s fears about this takeover 6 months back. Shocking state of affairs. Once again a famous club is on the brink.
@razor1974: As a Ashton Utd fan, this is sad news, Iβve been here a few times, and had a brilliant time, wish you all for a quick turnaround
@Connor_RiceyGFC: Rivalries are irrelevant here, praying this gets sorted, football clubs mean everything to the local community. Striping Blyth of that is wrong of the highest level, here’s hoping those criminals gets gone and here’s hoping it’s soon
@duncanwallis1: Itβs gutting to see such a famous club in such a position. I feel for all the fans and volunteers
@callumkitson: Worrying time for Blyth. This is possibly points deduction worthy.
@tp74s: Shameful what this bloke has done to the club π
@JRipley98: Got you on the to do list this season, hope it’s sorted later on
@jorjspartan: embarrassing 1st game I can recall that’s been postponed for this reason.
@RussWWFC: The authorities need to answer questions as to why they let an owner like Worthless LiquidShit buy such a club of historical significance in the first place. Disgraceful and I hope you are rid of this chancer soon.
@snoopythepilot: Football has an ownership problem. Good luck from Reading π€
@pelly1970: As a Wigan fan who saw his club weeks from folding with no support from the EFL I hope u get this sorted , too many rogue owners donβt understand what community clubs mean , come on Newcastle United help them out
@BigWiseFuck: Fuck me this is embarrassing
@doi_jones: That Irfan mush is a propa Divvy β
@chrisccs8: What an absolute wanker.with many stigmatismβs currently out there for people of ethnic minorities being in management (and higher roles) in the English football pyramid and people making steps to try and bridge that gapβ¦. You then have this prick coming in to mess it up @PFA
@robbytemp: Fucking clueless. What have you done to our club. Nice due diligence mr former chairman
@TheDB30: Conmen are always gonna their grubby mits on clubs until the fit & proper test becomes fit & proper in itself. Itβs the fans and the community that suffer. Rivalries are irrelevant, I hope they find a solution that keeps the club in the community itβs its proper guise.
@MrAlanJR: This is awful, good luck to Blyth fans
@YouYeltz: Ah, this is rather worrying. One of the iconic clubs in non-league in some serious peril. Sounds like a change of ownership needed, pronto. Solidarity with the Spartans fans – fingers crossed it gets sorted ππ€
@athole52: End of club it seemsππ€¦ββοΈ
@Ted246_: Don’t go blaming those who don’t want to be a part of the shitshow.
@PhilWhi69179374: How embarrassing can u get, 1 hour later aswell π« π«
@_toosb: Sad to see this at Blyth. My hometown club Durham was utterly ruined by @seedorf77 , though it doesn’t prevent @bbcnewcastle fawning over him as a guest on #totalsport . Charlatan owners using clubs as a plaything ends only one way.
@thompa1967: Disgusting what Bernard did at Durham, still holding onto the ownership as well.
@tommy_white111: A reminder to anyone who thinks Raj Singh should sell the club to the first person who comes knocking. We might be shite on the field, but off the field weβve got a relatively stable club to support, and Blyth fans would kill for that at the minute.
@JohnLeonard1908: As a teenager I stood on the Boothen End at the Victoria Ground to witness one of the worst nights in @stokecity history @Blyth_Spartans deserved their famous FA Cup victory. Now the club faces an uncertain future – the latest in English football. Truly sad times.
@Ginga_Macca: What is going on at Blyth?? Fond memories of travels in the old Unibond days
@CaseyAdamsLOFC: Gutted for them. Was a class group of fans when we played them in the cup a few years ago
@joe1999benno: What the actual fuck is going on at Blyth! Feel so sorry for their many loyal fans, That statement their βchairman put outβ looks fucking stupid doesnβt it
Pretty astonishing how dramatically things have gone wrong at Blyth in a few months.
Itβs a fantastic club with some of the warmest, most genuine people youβll meet in the game. https://t.co/sYeEOUnTFx

An absolute joke of a chairman
Never should have been allowed near any club. Good to see the fit and proper checks are working if there even are any.
Have to feel for the fans. This doesn’t end well. https://t.co/DqFlmLPxMP
