There were worrying scenes on Saturday afternoon as Cardiff City keeper Alex Smithies is carried off the pitch in mystery circumstances.
The 30 year old is currently being assessed after having to be withdrawn in the opening stages of the Bluebirds’ clash with Bristol City.
The goalkeeper needed medical treatment in the ninth minute of the Championship fixture at Ashton Gate, putting his hand up to signal that he needed attention, before medical staff rushed on.

Following a significant break in play, where his blood pressure was being taken, he was stretchered off before being replaced by Dillon Phillips.
He was carried off the pitch and according to reports was sitting upright when taken off the field of play.
The Bluebirds’ official Twitter account posted on Twitter: “Alex Smithies receiving treatment. No involvement in play. Looking like he’ll be unable to continue.”
“Dillon Phillips replaces Alex Smithies. Thinking of you, Alex,” they wrote in a separate tweet.

After that, Cardiff went on a scoring spree, finding the net twice within seven minutes to go into the break 2-0 up.
On the 18th minute, a brilliant free kick was sent in from Harry Wilson before the ball was then headed home by Curtis Nelson.
City lead by two moments later following excellent control and a cross from Sheyi Ojo, and Kieffer Moore headed home for his 11th goal of the campaign.
An update from Mick McCarthy on Alex Smithies – He was sick, he has not gone to hospital. He’s still in the physio room, he’s spoken to him and Smithies isn’t sure what is wrong.
