Worrying Derby County EFL development emerges

A worrying development regarding Derby County emerges with concerns continuing over what kind of sanction the EFL will give to the club.

According to a report by Sky Sports, the Rams may begin next season still unaware of their possible EFL punishment.

They claim that the independent disciplinary commission, which will hear the case regarding Derby’s accounting irregularities, will not meet for at least a fortnight.

It goes on to state that, upon the verdict of the hearing, Derby are almost certain to lodge an appeal, which could then lead to a legal case that will no doubt drag on for months on end.

It is also claimed that, should the panel determine that the club’s alleged accounting errors mean that the club broke the EFL’s Profit and Sustainability rules, they would most likely be hit with a significant point deduction during their Championship campaign, but when they’ll find out confirmation of what that deduction will be is very much up in the air.

I mean let’s face it, EFL aren’t very good at making decisions quick anyway quite frankly.

Football Fancast gave their opinion on the matter: This news would not be good to learn at the best of times for a football club, let alone one that is currently in talks regarding a takeover.

Indeed, with Derby’s future appearing incredibly uncertain at present, a situation that does not look like changing anytime soon, Mel Morris could well find that any potential suitors hold off on finalising a bid while they wait and see just how badly the Rams will be hit by the disciplinary commission.

The fact that a resolution will not be found for a number of months is also likely to have a negative impact on the club in the upcoming transfer window, as, should Derby indeed be handed a substantial points deduction, their chances of relegation would dramatically increase ahead of next season, something that will undoubtedly put players off of a move to Pride Park.

These eventualities are sure to leave Morris livid, as the businessman is reported to be desperate to sell the club as, recently, he has personally been paying the club’s £1.2m monthly wage bill due to the Rams’ dire financial situation.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney has sent out a clear message to the Rams fanbase fans ahead of what’s expected to be a busy summer of change at Pride Park.

“I knew from when I was a very young lad that I wanted to go into management,” he said, speaking to RamsTV.

“I’m grateful to this football club to put me in charge and having faith in me. Now it’s on me to repay that and the best way to do that is to win games.”

Looking back on the final day showdown, he said: “You can tell when you have got a group of players who are working, and they are trying to do the right things, and I knew the players could get through that.

“It’s as big as anything I have been involved in. I knew what was at stake for the football club, for the fans, the staff who work at the football club. It was a huge game.

“The one thing you have to do; you set the team up and then you’re relying on them players to go out onto the pitch and get the result, which was needed.”

Looking ahead to the 2021/22 campaign, which will be his first full season in management, he said: “As I said when I took this job, I’m a confident person.

“I’m confident in myself and confident in the staff I have got working with me.

“We need to kick on. That’s very clear for everyone to see and our plans that we have got in place will help us move forward.

“If we put them plans into action then we’ll be in a completely different place next season. And I believe in myself to develop this team and give us the best chance of moving forward.”

Fans reacted as a worrying Derby County EFL development emerges, see what they had to say below…

@SteveBr03986547: So does this mean we start the new season with a transfer embargo? Which ever way you look at it we really are in dire straights aren’t we

@gavinisham1: I think we would be free to sign out of contract players and loanees even under a embargo. Even without an embargo i can’t see us having any money to buy players.

@AdrianPacey: Basically means will go on and on, we won’t get sold and Rooney will have to make do with the shit that should of got relegated minus some high earners off the wage bill, either way the club is doomed

@fans_county: Would love to know where we stand with season tickets. I took the discounted season ticket for last season. Never requested a refund. But with not seeing any matches last season. Does it get rolled over to next season or do I get the stated 1/23 per match refund? #dcfc #dcfcfans

@RamAbrazil1970: Not one bookmaker has priced Derby up in the championship for next season.. Looks like they are waiting to see how many points we’re going to be docked.. #dcfc

@Dan_Walls_: It’s clear the EFL wanted #dcfc to go down last season. That didn’t happen. So now, they’ll drag out this procedure until the season is underway meaning Derby aren’t likely to get investment and won’t be able to recruit due to an embargo & more than likely to go down this season

@bango_don: If they get it sorted before the play off final is played the points deduction if get one can be applied to the this season so prob best for them to hurry it up. Soon has its done its next season of get one

@bigav88: They could be giving us a fighting chance if we get an embargo now we are fucked but if we can scrape together a team of frees and loans then we may have a fighting chance of staying up

@DCFC_CMH: I think it’s more clear that the efl are totally unsure and don’t understand there own penalties against #dcfc
