Wolves fans warned not to wear club colours at closed doors Europa League tie

Fans who have travelled abroad for their Europa League clash tonight have been told not to wear their club colours at Slovan Bratislava.

200 corporate tickets were issued long-standing fans despite it being a ‘behind-closed-doors’ tie with 21,000 fans expected to being side ground after UEFA told Slovakia side they could invite children aged 14 and under to the game.

This is because of the restrictions set by UEFA for the previous instances of racism the Slovan have had at their stadium.

In August, Slovan Bratislava were told that they have to play two European games in an empty stadium for racist chanting and banners during their Europa League play-off match against PAOK.

It isn’t said whether the away end of the stadium will be closed or used by home supporters. The corporate tickets are said to be in the main stand close to the halfway line.

Wolves fan Peter Abbott, who reckons he’s missed just 2 games in 44 year of watching his side, said: “As we understand it, there are going to be kids groups from all over Slovakia and even some from the Czech Republic.

“It will be an interesting experience. I really don’t know what to expect.”

Under Article 73 of Uefa’s regulations, accompanied children, aged 14 and under, from local schools and football academies are allowed to be invited to behind closed doors matches.

Abbott added: “I don’t think Slovan Bratislava’s corporate will be the same as the corporate at Molineux.

“We have been told not to wear club colours, which is what we will have to do.

“It seems a shame Wolves fans can’t buy tickets as normal because we have done nothing wrong.”

Wolves currently sit third in their group, with three points from two games. Slovan Bratislava sit top the group with four points along with Braga in second on goal difference.

After finding out about the story, fans took to say that it was harsh for Wolves fans to be punished, others said those that travelled might ignore the rule and wear their colours anyway – see those tweets on the next page.
