Woking fans reveal who they want as new their boss following the latest sacking by the club, waving goodbye to Alan Dowson.
The 51 year old had been in charge of the club since May 2018, and saw his side win just two of their past 15 matches in all competitions.
Having moved to the club from Hampton & Richmond Borough in May 2018, Dowson guided them to promotion from National League South in his first season.
Though his side, without a win since beating Wealdstone on the 22nd of January, are currently 16th in the National League.
CLUB STATEMENT:
Woking Football Club can confirm that they have parted company with Manager Alan Dowson.
“Following the prolonged run of poor form in the league, the Board of Directors has taken the tough decision to relieve Dowse of his duties,” said Woking Chief Executive, John Katz.
“Since being appointed Manager prior to the 2018/19 season, Dowse has engineered an instant return to the National League after inheriting a relegation side, he has led the club to a Third Round FA Cup home tie as the Cards played host to Watford, he took the club to the semi-finals of the FA Trophy in 2020/21, and he was instrumental in the Club’s financial survival in the midst of the global pandemic.”
“The Club would like to thank Dowse for all he has done both on and off the pitch during his tenure in Woking. Dowse is kind and generous with his time serving the community in which he managed. The Club and this community will miss his charisma and passion for Woking, as will the local charities he has done so much for. We wish him well in all of his future endeavours and he’ll always be welcome at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.”
Assistant Manager Ian Dyer has been asked to take charge of the First-Team as Caretaker Manager for the foreseeable future. A search for a new manager will begin immediately.
No further comment will be made today.

As mentioned, Woking fans reveal who they want as their new boss following the latest sacking, see all those tweets below…
@PhilWormley: As a fan, a season ticket holder and having seen such success and happy days under him I am gutted to see him go. Having also worked so closely with Dowse through the hospice he was amazing, a one off, and what he did to bring the community together was incredible.
@YtsNathan: New woking manager imo opinion:
Kenny jackett
Neil Smith
Kevin Betty
In that order
@666Jamiethomas: Surely Smudger is the man
@imraisbeck: Sad day. Dowse and team have had a massive impact on the club. He is a genuinely nice guy and I really wanted it to work with him at the helm. Unfortunately it’s a results business and we haven’t had a decent one for far too long. All the best and thanks for the memories.
@Wokinglad: It’s got to be Neil Smith for me, did a cracking job at Bromley and harshly got the boot
@Cardinale_77: The right decision but nothing to celebrate. He gave his all to the job and beyond and deserves great credit. But the last few months have been dire, with Saturday the final straw. Good luck to him in the future.
@coycards: Shame to see Dowse go but time for change and bring in Neil Smith imo
@SteveRudrum1: Dowse will always be a legend for what he has done for the club, but ultimately it is a results business and recently it just hasn’t been good enough. It was the right decision. Good luck Dowse.
@ThePopester136: I am sad to see this – this man has been unique for the team, the community, the fans, everyone. I’ve not known a manager like him. He’s built an amazing community spirit. Thank you so much for everything – you deserve success wherever you go 👍👏👏
@paullaithorpe: we have such high ambitions, so surely the club can bring in some with experience of getting teams out of this league
@ryanainsworth: James Rowe anyone? lol
@WokingHazard: Honestly, no celebration here. Will always appreciate what he has done for this club, on and off the pitch. We’ll never forget the conference south, he stabilised us and is a top man. But we can’t afford to stand still or go backwards. Unfortunately he took as far as he could.
@ReeceWFCFairfield: Kenny Jackett or Keith Curle for me
@AdamCFC22: Although this decision is what was needed we all need to remember Dowse has done very well for the club and we all need to remember what he has done for us as a club. Thank you Dowse and good luck for the future.
@JamesNew2487: Unfortunate and a sad way for Dowse’s tenure to come to an end after everything that he has done for our club. The fact is though we’ve been sleepwalking towards relegation these past couple of months so something had to change. All the best Dowse and thanks for the memories.
@MarkNorthwood12: Unfortunately the right decision, results and performances showed us that but should have waited until the summer . Abit pointless as surely we wernt going to go down ..appears to me he lost changing room ..Good luck dowse for the future your a decent man .
@LynnSCorbett: Thank you Dowse you’re a lovely human being who helps everyone. I wish you the very best for the future.
@MashStPaddy: I thought this would happen at the end of the season and they would move Smudge into the job. Guess they will want to give him time to work out who he wants to keep. Surely this is Smudge’s job?
@ChrisWest1610: Sometimes just have to separate the man from the football. Great guy, always friendly and up for a chat with the fans, done a lot for the club definitely left the club better than he found it but this is a results business & the results just weren’t there Wish him all the best
@darrenpasley79: Felt this was coming but still absolutely gutted. Absolute top bloke and needs to be remembered for the wonderful work he has done both on and off the pitch. Sometimes things don’t work out eventually but that’s football and he will be a success elsewhere I’m sure.
Regardless of how it’s ended, the love and passion this man showed for our club and our community was amazing, thank you for everything Dowse 👏🏻 pic.twitter.com/4MEF5pGrB8
