We take a look at what fans on social media have said as Scunthorpe United look at potentially changing the club crest.
There has been a divided reaction as the National League club launch a consultation for a potential update to its crest, in use since 1994, to better reflect its history and future ambitions.
Inspired by positive feedback from last season’s Unity crest variation and discussions with the Voice of the Fans group, the process starts with a Google Form vote to gauge interest in a permanent change.
And should fans opt for change, further surveys, focus groups, and FA-guided steps will involve fans, stakeholders, and season ticket holders.

For the 2024/25 season, Scunthorpe temporarily moved away from their current crest for one season, launching a vote with design E being the preferred choice.
A: 333 (20.5%)
B: 68 (4.2%)
C: 250 (15.4%)
D: 76 (4.7%)
E: 771 (47.4%)
F: 130 (8%)
Scunthorpe went back to fist crest for the 2025/26 season, but should the outcome of the vote be ‘yes’ for a complete permanent change of the official crest, it is likely to be in effect from the 2027-28 season.
Note: The below designs were for the special anniversary crest, with new designs to be used should they change crest. But could some of these designs just be a clue as to what we could expect, the look the club are going for, or what fans want to see on it?
CLUB STATEMENT:
Scunthorpe United Football Club is inviting supporters, stakeholders, and the wider community to take part in an open consultation regarding a potential update to the club’s crest.
The Iron’s current crest, which has represented the club since 1994, has become an iconic part of Scunthorpe United’s identity. However, the club recognises the importance of ensuring that its visual identity reflects both its proud history and its ambitions for the future, and the positivity that returning to a variation of the Unity crest for last season’s anniversary campaign yielded.
The consultation process, should the first phase result in a “yes”, will give fans the opportunity to share their views on the current crest, explore alternative design concepts, and contribute to shaping the visual identity of Scunthorpe United moving forward.
In deriving the Voice of the Fans group, one of the key conversations in the first meeting was around the club crest and whether there would be appetite to undergo a rebrand, and this will be a project that will heavily involve our supporters, especially stakeholders and season ticket holders, as per the Football Association’s guidelines to changing a club crest.
Chair and co-owner Michelle Harness said: “Our crest is more than just a logo, it’s a symbol of who we are as a football club. We want to ensure that it reflects both our heritage and the values we carry into the future.
“This consultation is about listening to our supporters and the local community, so that any decision we make is rooted in the voices of those who care most about Scunthorpe United. We don’t want to make any changes without hearing from the people who make this football club what it is.”
Initially, we are rolling out a simple Google Form to gauge support interest in permanently changing the club’s crest away from its current form. Should this vote pass through, supporters will then be able to participate through a series of surveys and focus groups. Feedback will be collected throughout the consultation period, after which the club will review the responses before making any decisions.
The club is committed to transparency throughout the process and encourages all fans to get involved to ensure that the crest reflects the collective identity of the Iron family. We know how much our crest means to people, and this is your chance to be part of the conversation. Together, we can make sure the badge on our shirts reflects the passion, pride and history of Scunthorpe United.
To have your initial say on the voting process, please click here to complete the Google Form.
Should the initial voting process result in a “yes”, there will be a future wider consultation process which will get underway. Changing a badge permanently requires the club to follow a process as set out by the Football Association in order to identify that the change is wanted by its supporters. Any voted change is likely to be in effect from the 2027-28 season, and will not be completed in time for the 2026-27 campaign, although a phased process will be executed in order to rebrand across the whole club.
If a change is voted in, the club will also enter dialogue and be transparent in the costings and impact to rebrand across the wider club, including signage at the stadium and more.
Voting will end for phase one at 4pm on Monday, September 15th.
Here’s what fans on social media have said as Scunthorpe look at potentially changing club crest…
@CalSUFC15: Really hope we keep the current one. It’s unique, doesn’t need changing. However i think i’m in the minority and i wont be surprised if it does go ahead.
@Calpell8: 100% keep it as it is.
@ScunthorpeMWS: 100% should be more the unity badge
@BenMaido: I think there is a divide with this one, I personally would prefer to keep the current one, it’s unique and all I’ve ever really known growning up, I can’t stand a boring circular design which every other club now has, use the unity crest for a third kit or special occasion IMO
@jordichef: Current one is class, no need to change it
@CharlieBetts19: Respect the democratic process. Myself, I love the current badge and hope it stays, it’s unique, stands out. I think the Unity badge is fairly generic looking. Not the end of the world either way.
@happyangler123: 200% bring back the fist with the chains it’s our history
@sufc62639017: Why do people want to change our badge? By 2030 every clubs gunna be circle, piss off. Everyone knows Scunthorpe from the badge!
@b_daws19: Keep it as it is
@FeathersIron_: Doesn’t need changing
@daimo75: 💯 unity badge
@harveygh_: Nope don’t change it
@moderate_iron: Ideal. Either a return to the unity crest, or something else to complain about for the next 30 years.
James McCabe: Keep the current one for me but its an unpopular opinion I think hahs .
Ben Rhodes: Leave it as it is
David Bradshaw: Don’t change!!
Craig Gravel: Leave it as it is
Matthew Fish: Go back to something like last season
Tim Wood: 100% bring bck the UNITY badge..
