West Ham fan boat collides with Thames Bridge as their day goes from bad to worse

A fan boat consisting of West Ham supporters travelling to Fulham, collides with Thames Bridge as their day goes from bad to worse.

Hammers fans were making their way across the River Thames for the game at Craven Cottage, in the knowledge that they could overtake Manchester United by getting into the top six.

It’s seemingly tradition for a group of away fans to hire out a boat for an away day in London, but on this occasion, it didn’t go to plan.

A near 2 minute clip was uploaded onto social media, the fans belting out songs, only for the boat to the bump into the Hammersmith Bridge as it tries to go under.

It also made for a loud bang as it stayed still, thankfully no one was hurt with the boat only getting a little bit of damage.

What happened next? The boat made a U-turn, got itself free and no doubt found somewhere to let the supporters off.

The game itself saw Fulham hit five past West Ham through goals from Raul Jimenez, Willian, Tosin Adarabioyo, Harry Wilson and Carlos Vinicius.

This helps guide Marco Silva’s side to their second 5-0 win in four days, taking them up to 10th in the Premier League table with 21 points from 16 games played.

Player ratings (as per Sky Sports)

Fulham: Leno (8), Castagne (7), Adarabioyo (8), Bassey (7), Robinson (7), Palhinha (8), Cairney (7), Iwobi (7), Pereira (8), Willian (7), Jimenez (8).

Subs: Wilson (8), Vinicius (7), Ballo (6), De Cordova Reid (6), Reed (6).

West Ham: Fabianski (4), Coufal (4), Zouma (4), Aguerd (5), Cresswell (5), Soucek (5), Ward-Prowse (6), Fornals (5), Bowen (6), Kudus (6), Paqueta (5).

Subs: Emerson (6), Mavropanos (6), Mubama (5), Ogbonna (5), Benrahma (5).

Player of the Match: Harry Wilson.

Fulham boss Marco Silva said after the game, as per the club website: “Brilliant performance from us. Very, very good level.

“We were the best team on the pitch, not just because we won five nil but the way we performed from the first minute.

“The players understood the plan and they it executed really well.

“The way we did it, it was almost a perfect afternoon for us.

“Of course, the last 25 minutes, we just tried to control the game on the ball. We lost some balls that gave them the chance for some counter-attacks.

“Apart from that we didn’t give almost nothing for them. We did control well and it’s not easy to control a team like West Ham with the quality they have.”

He was questioned if he thought it was a better performance than against Forest, to which he replied: “No doubt about it because against Forest, we didn’t start the game the way we wanted.

“The only thing that I really didn’t enjoy that game was our first 15 minutes.

“On Wednesday, everyone was saying that okay, ‘it was against Forest, they are really bad, all that stuff.

“In the Premier League, it doesn’t exist and then they showed that yesterday when they got a good result away from home.

“This afternoon was against the team that just came from winning the derby away from home against Tottenham, the way they are doing so well in the Europa Conference.

“Credits for the players the way they did it. The way they enjoy, and they embrace the challenge.”

David Moyes said after West Ham’s 5-0 defeat, as per the club website: “I’m embarrassed for the result and the performance, and we’re sorry to the supporters for it.

“There were a wee bit of mitigating circumstances – I think the midweek took a huge amount out of us. Playing Thursday and Sunday in two Premier League games, compared to [Fulham playing on] Wednesday and Sunday makes a big, big difference.

“We’ve had quite a bit of illness in the camp over the last few days and that’s not helped.

“We allowed them to grow into the game after we started it quite well.

“I thought the first goal was a terrible goal from our point of view. We never squeezed up from the cross, which meant Jiménez could head it from eight or nine yards, rather than 14 or 15 yards.

“The ball might have gone through and out [had we done so]. We just didn’t step up at all and from there things went from bad to worse. Things just turned against us really.

“I’m hugely disappointed with the manner of it.

“Even at half-time, I said ‘we’re not going to concede any more goals, if we’re going to lose we’re not going to lose by any more’.

“But what we’ve done in the end is that we did. There were bits of the second half where we got a wee bit closer to them and there were a couple of half-chances, and ultimately we conceded another couple of goals. It was really poor.

“Fulham are a good team.

“They’re scoring goals and we ran out of steam in the last couple of days. Even mentally, what it took out of us to get a result at Tottenham, I just felt today Edson pulled out because of illness, we had Pablo and Emerson who were both ill yesterday and we weren’t sure how they would be.

“It’s nearly impossible to keep the players fresh [in this schedule], but it would be possible to put our midweek game on Wednesday.

“It was on Thursday and I can’t do anything about that. I can only tell you it played a part. It wasn’t the reason we lost. We didn’t perform well enough and Fulham did.

“The supporters were great and stuck with the team.

“I think most of the supporters probably understood where we’d been in midweek, and we had two away games this week.

“Everyone had two away games or two homes in this period and not many have taken six points.

“Two away games, if you’d given me three points Id have probably said yes. If you’d given me two draws we’d have said that might have been good results away from home, so to get three points from the two games wasn’t that bad.

“But more importantly it was a disappointment today in how we performed.”
