Wayne Rooney’s Birmingham City ended up being booed off as fans vent out anger after their second straight defeat as they lost to Hull City.
Liam Delap and Jaden Philogene scored to inflict more disappointment for Rooney, who was in charge for his first home game at the Blues.
Liam Delap getting the opening after 12 minutes along with a solo effort from Jaden Philogene with 15 minutes left on the clock making it a miserable home debut for Rooney, who came up against his former Derby assistant Liam Rosenior.
The Blues were booed off the pitch as both ends came to an end, while there were isolated calls from home fans who had been unhappy with his appointment.
The result means Birmingham now sit 12th in the Championship table, Eustace was sacked with the club sitting 6th. Hull jump up into 8th.

Speaking to BluesTV post-match, Rooney said: “Of course, [I am] disappointed.
“First-half we started really well and then, obviously, we concede a goal you can’t do anything about really.
“Then, from there, we had some good moments.
“The opportunities Hull had we created by giving the ball away [and] being sloppy with the ball, so that was disappointing.
“Second-half, we again started well and then we just couldn’t get that good opportunity or that goal.
“Then we concede the second and that is the concern for me after we conceded the second goal, we didn’t push on and didn’t look like scoring [or] creating anything.”
Rooney told BBC Radio WM: “There were some good moments but we created problems for ourselves, giving the ball away too cheaply.
“And the really disappointing thing was that, after the second goal, I didn’t see a response and I’ve told the players that.
“That last 10 minutes or so told me a lot. It was a concern for me and it’s something that won’t happen again.
“We have to be patient – and we will get there. At the minute, we’re on a learning curve.”
Rooney as per Sky Sports: “You need to be brave in taking the ball, but it’s clear from the first two games that the players aren’t comfortable doing that. So there will be slight adjustments of course because we need to pick up points as well. I can get players up the pitch, boot the ball up the pitch and look to pick up second balls, but we need to get the balance right. This is on me – maybe I’ve asked them to do too much and I take that responsibility. We’re asking them to play out from the back and be more front-footed.
“I said to the lads after the game ‘if you don’t feel you can do it, tell me, and we can adjust and adapt’. There’s so many different elements to no-fear football. They’ve had snots and guts for the last 10 years and it’s been very difficult. But it’s not going to change within two weeks when the players haven’t been used to a completely different way. As I’m getting to know players’ strengths and weaknesses, we will find that balance to ensure we get it right.”
Hull’s Liam Rosenior as per Sky Sports: “I’d be excited if I was a Birmingham fan because I worked with him [Rooney] for a long time.
“I know his qualities as a manager and a coach.
“I ask for Birmingham fans to give him time because I know Wayne and he will get it completely right.
“He’s got so many qualities – when you had the intelligence Wayne had as a player and see how he sees the game, he’s top in the way he understands players, he makes players feel really confident in the way they play, but once he gets that time, I’m sure he will be successful.
“A legend has just walked into the club so we knew we had to take the sting out of the game.
“The first goal came from really good pressing that we worked on with Liam Delap, Scott Twine and Adama Traore. After that we had complete control.”
Hull City boss Liam Rosenior told BBC Radio Humberside: “It was like the first 60-70 minutes against Southampton, except we shot more this time.
“We had more end product. More shots, more crosses and we were more positive. The players responded well from a big setback.
“This is what the Championship is about. Every team is going to have setbacks. It’s how you respond that counts.
“Wayne is a top, top manager and a top guy. We are just further along in the process than they are. He’s only just started here, I know what he wants to achieve here and it will take time. Unfortunately for him we came out on top this time.”
“You get set-backs in the @SkyBetChamp and it’s about how you respond – that was an outstanding team performance.”

There was plenty of reaction on Twitter after Wayne Rooney’s Birmingham get booed off as fans vent out their anger after a second straight defeat…
@ryanmeston07: I would be putting the blame at sacking the former manager rather than Rooney
@rowbales: I never felt like we was a back footed team under Eustace this season, he had the balance absolutely spot on. This will turn sour fast and you can’t really blame the fans for reacting the way they did the way the last 2 games have went. #bcfc
@ColBwfc: Christ, it’s his first home game 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@garthLCFC: It’s the fans that always suffer, owners never should have gotten rid of Eustace
@mike_newsome: Let’s be honest, Eustace should never have lost his job but getting Rooney’s back after two fairly narrow defeats is ridiculous.
@aet060585: I didn’t wanna see eustace go, but the board make the decisions we have to live with it, totally agree last 2 games been awful, but to boo a new manager on his home debut is unacceptable, you ain’t no blues fan doing that,
@michaeltparry01: And if we win the next two they’ll be chanting his name. This is how it works, unfortunately.
@aet060585: Rooney has asked the players to be honest, it will take time we’re only 12 games in sitting 12th 3 points from play offs still, the players signed were signed by eustace to play his way sort it out blues we don’t boo we get behind the team, I’m unhappy with the results.
@Goat_Bacca: Rooney ain’t got a fucking clue has he #bcfc
@inkedgeordie96: No one wanted him there, they were doing well but as soon as his name came up the owners didn’t care and sacked the original manager
@prwbcfc: I’m embarrassed to be a blues fan listening to that after 2 games, did Rooney ask Longelo to do a shit back pass and gift them a goal it was uphill struggle from then. These players get paid enough money as professional footballers they should be comfortable with a football.
@EstonianFBP: being a big name player doesn’t always mean you’re going to be a good coach
@royalex_B: Well at least they gave him a chance
@Bashambauer6: After 2 games lads? I know you’ve been shafted by the owner but getting on the managers back won’t turn things around
@DaiRich81: Ridiculous decision in the first place to sack Eustace with the club in 6th.
@lewygee23: I’m not happy with the decision of the board or the performances in the last two games but this is absolutely cringeworthy and actually embarrassing!
@AllonbyTroy: What an embarrassing set of fans. He’s been in charge for 2 games. It’s not his fault Eustace got sacked…back the manager…
@ohdontcry: Well, this is going well and it’s fucking hilarious! The arrogance of the new ownership has no boundary! Eustace was building something, they were playing well. Then they want Phil Mitchell’s doppelganger in!
