Wayne Rooney responds to Leeds fans who taunted him with chants during Plymouth’s 3-0 defeat at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.
Chants such as “Da Da Da Rooney is a ******”, “Your getting sacked in the morning”, “Time to go… f*ck off!” were among many of the songs sung around the ground, as can be seen in the video below.
It was a one-sided encounter, with Daniel Farke’s men having a blistering nine-minute first-half spell when goals from Dan James, Joel Piroe and Brenden Aaronson to give Leeds a 3-0 half time lead.
“Crazy five, seven minutes where we concede three and the game’s done. Very disappointed with the result,” Wayne Rooney said, per Yorkshire Evening Post.
“Leeds are a fantastic team, difficult team to play against. From our point of view we’re trying to improve. We’ve got young lads coming on, it’s a good atmosphere at a big club. Today it was a bad day for us, move on and look to the game on Tuesday.”
On the nature of the goals his team conceded, he said: “I think there’s elements of luck, certainly on two of the goals. We had to defend the box better than we did for the goals.
“We brought Andre Gray on hoping we can nick a goal. Longer the second half went on, we knew it was going to be very difficult.
“I’m sure if you ask their manager, anything but promotion for Leeds will be failure. I’m sure that’s the message he’s getting.
“No doubt they’ll be one of the teams fighting for the top two places.”
On the chants from Leeds fans, he said with a grin: “I didn’t hear any chants. Maybe they can sing a bit louder.”

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke told BBC Radio Leeds:
“I’m not sure if I was ever involved in a game at this level with such statistics – I think there were nine shots goal and their expected goals was 0.0 and 0 corners for them.
“Yes we were in total control of the game, this was what I love when you are so dominant and have a really complex performance.
“We needed 10 or 15 minutes to find our tactical positioning between the lines and our offensive roles behind the striker in order to create a few more gaps and chances against a back six in front of them.
“Afterwards we were all over them, created many good situations, scored three really good goals and could have done a bit more second half.

Fans gave their reaction after Wayne Rooney responds to Leeds fans who taunted him with during Plymouth’s 3-0 defeat…
@Mad_Marko: He’s better at banter than he is at management to be fair.
@Seanrh11: Talks too much for someone who’s brought the worst 2 teams I’ve ever seen to Elland Road😂
@Macca_1993_: He’ll be able to hear them when he’s sat at home watching on the telly
@thetommoore: Do rate that from him tbf
@MarkSheppy67: He heard my mate telling him .. don’t worry it could be worse, your Mrs be eating kangaroo cock later, he went straight to 4th official and reported him, stewards had a word 🤣
@billywigwam13: Maybe Wayne Rooney can put the volume up on his tv to hear the chants, when he is sat at home tomorrow after Plymouth Argyle have sacked him #lufc #MOT
@bobbyalaw: He definitely heard them alright
@ilmmad512: Must have had the same ear defenders his team had; as none of his tactical nouse seemed to get onto the pitch 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
@ajm1991_: Translates to “I heard it all today. But I’m just shit and will pretend I didn’t”
@roblufc1983: 23 shots v 0 and Rooney says there was an element of luck 😂😂
@lufclewis: Worst team to ever come to Elland Road. Not even a shot 🤣 relegate yourselves
@beechishere:
“Stayed in the game as long as we could”
My god. Great player, drunk manager
@Dextertyson51: Surprised he is still in the job. Awful manager where ever he has gone, It’s just his name that gets him a job
@olpafc_: I’ve backed Rooney and the lads since the start and we play some beautiful stuff at home. Away record speaks for itself and is a problem bigger than Wazza. But to go to a team in the same league as us and not have a shot is a disgrace and embarrassment to us fans that went #pafc
@TashaALTV: Rooney is definitely ringing Lampard up after this for Leeds PTSD therapist number
