Watford looking for a FIFTH full-time manager in under two seasons

Watford are set to be looking for a FIFTH full-time manager in under two seasons with Vladimir Ivic to be sacked according to reports.

Despite being fifth in the Championship table, they are rarely comfortable under his leadership with his performances described as drab, with ideas and creativity lacking.

Watford manager Vladimir Ivic is facing the sack after just four months in charge, following the 2–0 defeat at Huddersfield Town on Saturday, their fourth loss of the season.

Appointed in August on an initial one-year contract, the Serbian was charged with the task of guiding Watford straight back to the Premier League following their relegation last season.

Ivic was the 12th permanent head coach owner Gino Pazzo has hired in the last eight years, following the dismissal of Nigel Pearson before the end of the last campaign.

Yet there have been frequent rumours of friction with the squad and it now appears the 43-year-old will leave Watford in the next 48 hours.

Ivic took the decision to drop skipper Troy Deeney for alleged discipline issues ahead of the game at Huddersfield.

When asked on Deeney’s absence from the starting 11 Ivic said: “He didn’t start because he played a lot of full games recently.

“I believe that he wasn’t ready to play from the beginning but the reason he wasn’t able to come on was a discipline issue.”

When asked if Deeney had a future at the club, Ivic added: “I don’t know, we will see.

“It’s between us and I don’t want to speak about this. I’m the coach and I know what is my responsibility.”

POST MATCH COMMENTS:

Huddersfield’s Carlos Coberan: “We knew the level of quality that Watford have and I was expecting a tough game but our effort and commitment was amazing.

“It’s hard to find one player that didn’t play with the correct enthusiasm and desire. Ryan Schofield played well but for me to individualise just one player would not be fair as I cannot say that Campbell or (Lewis) O’Brien were less important, for instance.

“The merit of this positive results we are getting is for the players.”

Watford’s Vladimir Ivic: “We had problems right from the beginning. We made mistakes early on and we paid for these two mistakes with the two goals Huddersfield scored.

“We created more in the second half and were more dominant but as I say our problems started from the first minute. We created some chances but were without any ideas and confidence in the first half. We need to do much better.”

It was just four months ago that Vladimir Ivic was named as Watford’s new head coach on a two year deal, having recently left his post at Israeli football club Maccabi Tel-Aviv earlier this summer.

The Serbian coach led them to back-to-back titles and now looks to be the man to try and get the Hertfordshire outfit back to the Premier League.

He led PAOK to the Greek Cup in his first season (2016–17) in charge as a manager, he then opted for Maccabi Tel-Aviv where he won consecutive league championships (2018–19, 2019–20), losing just eight games out of the 91 in which he took charge.

IVIC’S PLAYING CAREER:

1994–1998 – Proleter Zrenjanin – 67 games (7 goals)
1998–2004 – Partizan – 133 games (64 goals)
2004–2005 – Borussia Mönchengladbach – 4 games (1 goal)
2005–2007 – AEK Athens – 56 games (9 goals)
2007–2008 – Aris Thessaloniki – 29 games (5 goals)
2008–2012 – PAOK – 103 games (20 goals)
Total – 392 games (106 goals)

IVIC’S MANAGERIAL CAREER:

PAOK – 9 March 2016 until 10 June 2017 – 70 games, 41 wins, 12 draws, 17 defeats, 58.57 % won
Maccabi Tel Aviv – 31 May 2018 until July 2020 – 81 games, 54 wins, 20 draws, 7 defeats, 66.67 % won
Total – 151 games, 95 wins, 32 draws, 24 defeats, 62.91 % won

Fans reacted after seeing that Watford are looking for a FIFTH full-time manager in under two seasons…

@AlfredField: Hope we ain’t sacked Ivic. A manager who is disciplined that could sort the toxic dressing room out. He’s been expected to play with no left side, a midfield with chalobah, cleverley and garner as his only option at times. We brought in Glenn Murray ffs

@hannah333davis: As if people who were Ivic out a few hours ago are now having ago at the board as soon as sacking him becomes closer to reality

@JoeSketchy: Getting rid of Ivic is NOT THE ANSWER. Getting rid of the toxic players and SUPPORTING HIM in the January transfer window is! How can it be that difficult to grasp?! #WatfordFC

@MR_WFC: Just in case you care. Keep Ivic, Sack Deeney, Gray and Capuoe. Drop Foster. That’s it.

@aidyhogwfc: Managers need time. Never going to get the finished article after 4 months. To sack Ivic after less than half of the season is ludicrous. Yes you can argue that our performances haven’t been great, but we’re sat 5th in the table and 2 points off automatic promotion. #watfordfc

SexyDeulofeu7: If Vladimir Ivic does get sacked, this really shows we’re Deeney FC… One little bust up with him and you’re gone! Ivic shouldn’t be the one going, it should be Deeney, Gray and Duxbury. They only bring problems into this club and we don’t need or want them here. Pathetic
