Watford were left frustrated at having a ‘clean goal ruled out’ at Man City because Kwadwo Baah was ‘too strong’, the ref blowing for a foul.
With the scoreline at 1-0 to City, Kwadwo Baah dribbled with the ball from inside his own half, and sent a low shot past City keeper Stefan Ortegam only for referee David Webb to rule it out.
Baah was adjusted to have illegally barged City defender Kaden Braithwaite before shooting, but fans claim it ‘would have stood if Haaland scored it’.
City went on to beat Watford 2-1 in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening, Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes in the first half; Tom Ince late on to give the Hornets hope.

Foul?🤣🤣 https://t.co/uxAlASnoNu

Michael Dawson, on commentary for the game for Sky Sports, said on reviewing the disallowed goal: ‘He’s given a foul, I’m not too sure why. Does he just strength him out? I tell you what, I think it’s soft.
‘Oh no, he does charge him. I first thought it was shoulder on shoulder but he actually just goes straight across him.’
Meanwhile, well known Watford supporter Chris Stark tweeted: ‘Mad decision. Wouldn’t happen to Haaland’.
Baah told watfordfc.com: “We showed we can go out there and stick to our basics, even though it is Man City, and Saturday did not go to plan, and I think it paid off well.
“We stuck together, we didn’t let Man City break us, and it was a close score.
“It shows that we have confidence coming up against arguably the best team in the world.
“It was a tight scoreline so it shows what Tom [Cleverley] has in mind, and the plan that we should play works.
“Even though we lost today you could see that we gave them a little bit of pressure towards the end.
“That shows that if we stick to the plan it could pay off.”
On the disallowed goal: “I mean it was a shoulder to shoulder,” he said. “I don’t know how it was foul, I don’t know man, but I can’t really say much.”
Watford boss Tom Cleverley said to the club’s media: “We showed backbone and resilience tonight, which is what the objective was,.
“It was not an ideal start again but we responded well to that.
“Structurally we were disciplined and when they broke through us we put our bodies on the line with some good defending.
“We had some moments of quality on the counter-attack and we made it a nervous last few minutes for them.
“It’s a really good reaction and I’m proud of the players.”
On the disallowed goal: “I’ve watched it back and for me it’s a perfectly good goal.
“You’ve got a powerful player in Kwadwo Baah against a young player and he’s just shrugged him off with ease and I like to think that the referee would understand the dynamic of the duel.
“It’s a pivotal stage of the game at 1-0 and it’s a really important decision he’s taken. It’s disappointing for my player, it’s a big moment for him to score on a stage like that.”
It’s okay to use your shoulders and push players if you play for Man City though. #WatfordFC pic.twitter.com/GWfT0sJqpk

Here’s how fans reacted with Watford frustrated at having a ‘clean goal ruled out’ at Man City because Baah was ‘too strong’…
@Richwfc2: More I watch this more angry I get but also a tad annoyed Baah is smiling, if I had just been robbed of that goal I would be going ballistic at ref which might have swayed him a bit , too soft & accommodating @WatfordFC
@jaymeeteewhu98: Doesn’t Haaland do this on a regular during matches and gets praised for showing “good strength” ?
@jamesbcfcF1: What a surprise City paying the refs again
@gertyNFT: If Haaland does that it would have stood. City paying the refs against Watford
@SportsWashed49: Never a foul!
@geekcypriot: How is that a foul? Wasn’t Haaland praised for doing this?
@ExpatHornet: Baffling decision. Man City score that and it’s given.
@garyslade1987: That’s a bad one! These refs are petrified of upsetting Pep
@1886_blog: Match-fixing against Watford. City and PGMOL have zero shame.
@ZakGranger: Paying the refs against little old Watford?? 🤔
@Harry2671: This is a disgraceful decision – “he wanted more” the defender was weak – end. Why do we bother spending our money ffs.
@FA_PGMOL YOU ARE DESTROYING FOOTBALL
CLUELESS
CORRUPT
INCOMPETENT
@nathanconnortv: Genuinely… where the hell is the foul? Stupid decision that is.
@hlee_afc: cheating against watford. fuck me these lot are low as fuck.
@N87Kop: This ref taking the piss?!! Games gone. Bunch of incompetent 🤡
@DanWalsh__: What the fuck 😂😂😂😂 fuck all wrong with that
@ScouseKolo55u5: A foul? Nah fuck off, nothing wrong with that
@HoltomStott: This is ridiculous, costing Watford a great night in their history from being 2:0 down away to pull it back. The game is completely gone if this is a foul. If this was haaland guaranteed the goal would of stood 🤷🏻♂️
@Markafc87: Football has really gone soft. This cannot be a foul.
@JakeRuss1000: The great game is gone ladies and gentlemen… how could that possibly be a foul 🤦♂️
@Jack_Rogers97: Games on its arse
