A viral video emerges going into this weekend of Preston manager Ryan Lowe giving an amusing insight into his approach to transfers.
Speaking to the Lancashire Post, the 43 year old said he wants to bring in another striker and a wing-back to his squad.
Preston begun the Championship campaign with two 0-0 draws against Wigan Athletic and Hull City. However many would say the Lilywhites deserved to win both of those games, and Lowe can feel at least a little better about his defence.
Goals in the league are a much now, especially after hitting four past Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup First Round in midweek.

It’s important to remember this is Lowe’s first full season in charge at Deepdale since he joined from League One outfit Plymouth Argyle, and in this window so far, he’s brought in the likes of Freddie Woodman, Dai Cornell, Robbie Brady, Ben Woodburn, Troy Parrott and Alvaro Fernandez. And they ain’t stopping there if what he had to say is anything to go by.
He said: “We are trying to make progress but sometimes you’re waiting on parent clubs and what not. You think you’re half way down the line with it and then something happens and you’re back to square one.
“I’ll make no secret about it, we know what we’re looking for. We’re looking for a striker and a wing back. Once we have news on them we’ll give it.
“You’ve got to be patient and I won’t go and sign someone for the sake of signing them – there’s not a chance.
“I’ve got to make sure they fit the criteria, whether that is attitude and application or personalities, or the quality of the player.
“I always feel things happen for a reason, I’m sure we’ll get the right ones that we need.”
With two more likely to come in, Lowe is conscious of the impact they can have on the squad off the pitch.
Any potential signings have to tick all of the boxes for the North End boss and that means keeping the harmony in his ranks.
If the 43-year-old is not getting the right feeling when sorting a transfer, he will not complete it.
He said: “If I feel like anyone is going to cause the group, the coaching staff or even the club a problem, it’s not going to happen.
“We’ve been down the line with one or two players and I’ve come off it because I’ve felt it might not be the right thing.
“That’s not for any reason I’d explain but you get a gut feeling of players you’re signing.
“I don’t want to sign players who are going to cause a disturbance.”
Preston are a better team this time as they come to face Luton Town at Kenilworth Road, according to manager Ryan Lowe.
In one of the lowest points of his career at the club so far, Lowe saw his side beaten 4-0 by the Hatters in March, a game that saw the travelling fans refunded.
It was a result that could have scarred teams, but Preston picked themselves up and finished last season strong. It does still live in his mind but he is not one to hold onto it too much.
He said: “We’re a different team now, with different personnel. Things can happen like that. That game was a calamity.
“The goals we conceded weren’t great, does it stay in the back of your mind? Sometimes you have to let it go, don’t you?
“You know what not to do next time and that will certainly be the case.
“In Luton’s defence they were fantastic last season and just missed out on promotion. Nathan Jones has done a fantastic job there and continues to do the same now.
“I’m not thinking about it too much, if anything you look at it and want to put it right but that was then and this is the here and now. I think we are better than we were last season.”
He said on a selection headache: “You can’t play for yourself. I say to our lads don’t try and turn me on or showcase what you’ve got with 30, 40-yard diagonal balls that are going to be 50/50 balls.
“Play the way I want you to play and impress me by doing the simple and effective things.
“When teams do that, they’re very effective. There is no me, myself and I here. We’re together as one and I think the players see that.”
