Viewers spot what James Maddison did with pitch invader during match

Viewers watching on TV at home and fans from the stands spot what James Maddison did with a pitch invader during the Community Shield match.

The Leicester footballer bizarrely decided to pose for a selfie with a fans who had legged it onto the pitch during his side’s success against Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday evening.

The Foxes prevailed with a 1-0 victory on Saturday, with Kelechi Iheanacho scoring a penalty late on, but during the game a supporters somehow managed to evade security, get over the barriers and get onto the pitch, with Maddison happy for a photo to be taken ahead of a set-piece.

Former Foxes striker Gary Lineker posted a video (as seen below) of the situation accompanied by the caption: ‘A mid game selfie with @Madders10, as you do.’

There were previously concerns at Wembley during the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy last month, when some fans forced their way into the stadium without tickets. So it’s fair to say anymore concerns over security isn’t needed.

Maddison went on to play a total of 71 minutes as Leicester secured more silverware, though there was enough time for a selfie with a fan with the player linked with moving to Arsenal.

The 24-year-old won the FA Cup with Leicester last season, while he scored eight goals in 31 appearances in the Premier League, and provided seven assists.

He will be aiming to get back into the England squad, having made one appearance for his country so far, which came against Montenegro in 2019 and the debate still somewhat on the agenda.

Despite the speculation, Brendan Rodgers is confident that James Maddison will be staying at the King Power Stadium.

The Leicester attacker is reportedly open to joining the Gunners, though they have already spent Ā£50million on signing Ben White from Brighton so it remains to be seen how much cash they have remaining – especially after missing out on European football last season.

A cash-plus-player/players deal is a possibility, however Leicester are under no pressure to sell despite they themselves missing out on the Champions League on the final day of the 2020/21 campaign.

When asked whether Maddison would still be at the club this season, Rodgers replied: ā€œI believe so. I havenā€™t been told anything to say that he wouldnā€™t be.

ā€œHeā€™s happy in training, heā€™s working very hard. Heā€™s just recently become a father, so responsibility off the pitch as well.

ā€œClearly thereā€™s gossip and speculation that goes around, especially at this time of the year. But James is a very important member of our squad here.ā€

Roy Keane has claimed Maddison should be wise and stay with the Foxes, explaining how Arsenal are not currently an improvement on Leicester.

Speaking on ITV, Keane said: “Arsenal are a huge club At this moment in time I donā€™t believe to leave Leicester where they are is a step up to go to Arsenal.

“Probably backwards [step] At this moment in time, Arsenal is a huge club, Leicester where they are challenging for the Champions League, they won a trophy last year. Arsenal are short yet.”

Keane went on the speculate the reasons Maddison may be tempted to join the Gunners, claiming: “Maybe he might just fancy a bit of change, maybe just fancy a bit of London? I donā€™t know.

“Itā€™s a difficult one, Vardy had an opportunity to go to Arsenal he turned it down. He got big money, turned it down, he got big money at Leicester letā€™s not kid ourselves.

“But Leicester, the group of players they have. Theyā€™ve got a new training ground. If heā€™s leaving Leicester, I donā€™t think Arsenal is the right option, if I was him Iā€™d sit tight.”
