York fans run into each other invading the pitch – James Rowe has a pop at full time scenes

A video has emerged with some eagle eyed fans seeing York City fans run into each other when invading the pitch after the game on Monday.

The Minstermen secured their place in the National League North playoffs with one game remaining after picking up a 2-1 victory over AFC Fylde.

Lenell John-Lewis got his third goal in three games to break the deadlock in the first half, however that was cancelled out when Fylde got an equaliser through Ben Tolitt early into the second half.

York didn’t give up however, and up came Mitch Hancox to produce the winner seven minutes after Tolitt made it 1-1, with the winner securing the Minstermen a third succesive league victory.

Over 4,000 fans were in attendance with majority of them knowing that. AFC Fylde needed a point to secure third place in the National League North table and hoping to extend their six game unbeaten run in the league.

Though it was James Rowe and his side that were left going how frustrated as York held on victory which sees them secure their place in the National League North playoffs, remaining sixth in the standing, and have a chance of securing fifth place next weekend if they can get a win and see Chorley drop points against Spennymoor Town.

York’s next game sees them travel to Shropshire next Saturday to take on AFC Telford United at the New Bucks Head with a point separating them and bottom of the table Guiseley with another pick ground expected for that one.

York boss John Askey is delighted to have made the playoffs – but knows it is far from job done.

On a win which has lifted York to sixth – level on points with fifth-placed Chorley – Askey said: “That’s what the aim of the game was when I came in.

“It’s only hopefully the start of it. The players have enjoyed today and it’s obviously a good achievement but it’s only a good achievement if we get promoted.

“Today, there were six new players from when I came in,” he continued. “We’ve had to alter it a little bit but we all know the potential of York is very good.

“We’ve had our ups and our downs, which happens in football, but the players have kept strong and kept going, and we’ve got our reward.

“Hopefully we can push on and achieve something this year.

“The lads who have come in have done well and we’ve got lads who were here from the start – I’m really pleased for them.

“At times they’ve struggled but now they’re in a team that’s winning most weeks, and there’s no better feeling.”
