VIDEO: Matt Ritchie kicks Christian Atsu leaving Newcastle fans in hysterics

Newcastle United fans have been left in hysterics after spotting Matt Ritchie kicking Christian Atsu during their side’s win over Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

The amusing moment came as the whistle blew for half time, Atsu lunged into a tackle to get the ball behind for a corner and impressed Ritchie thanked him by shoving his boot into his arse.

Newcastle were at a disadvantage throughout the entirety of the match but their brilliant defensive display ensured them pick up a 1-0 win.

That only goal of the game coming from new summer signing Joelinton when he slotted home for his first for the club.

It looked as though Tottenham were going to be handed a penalty when Jamaal Lascelles collided into Harry Kane in the penalty area with 12 minutes remaining, though VAR denied those calls.

Lucas Moura had a chance to get that much needed Spurs equaliser but instead skied the ball.

Newcastle’s win over Spurs silence criticism that they received this summer.

Manager Steve Bruce said to Sky Sports: “We have had a tough week so the one thing you have to do is respond in the right way. Thankfully, we have done that. That’s the important thing.

“We can’t do a warm-up? Tactics? It’s embarrassing some of the stuff. The only way you can respond to it is with the team putting in a performance like that. The organisation was there for everyone to see.

“I have managed 900-odd games over 20 years. You would think there would be some respect. But I go back to the fact that whoever was going to replace Rafa was going to have a tough time.

“The easiest thing would have been to have said no to the challenge. But I am as determined as I have ever been to take the club forward. Days like today I will remember for a long time.”
