VIDEO: ‘Match Official’ celebrates late winner at Liverpool v Tottenham – leaves fans reeling

A video has emerged on social media appearing to show someone in an EA Sports match official jacket on the match officials bench celebrating Liverpool’s dramatic late winner against Tottenham at Anfield.

Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris couldn’t hold on to Mohamed Salah’s header before the ball then came off Alderweireld, crossed the line and into the net off.

As Anfield erupted in celebration to the goal, TV cameras panned to the Reds players and then quickly went on the ‘official’ joyous and giving a fist pump before the camera went elsewhere.

Watch the moment for yourself in the tweet below…

Mirror Football have stated: “via sources with knowledge of the man’s role, that he is not a Premier League match official. Instead, he is a masseur, provided to the officials at the ground on matchday.”

It’s not the first time an official has been seen celebrating a decision as in the same fixture as back in 2018, a linesman was pleased with handing Spurs a penalty.

It could have been he was just glad with getting the call right, however Liverpool fans thought it was enough to deem it as him celebrating.

Victory for Jurgen Klopp’s side sends them back to the top of the Premier League with Manchester City two points behind but still have a game in hand.

Spurs are now 16 points behind Pep Guardiola’s side. They will now be battling with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea for a Champions League group stage qualification spot which can be claimed for those who will finish 3rd and 4th. 5th is qualification for the Europa League group stage and 6th is qualification for the Europa League second qualifying round.

After watching an ‘official’ celebrating Liverpool getting a late winner through an own goal against Tottenham, fans took to give their surprised reaction, some however defended him – check out what they had to say on the next page.
