VIDEO: Joey Barton ‘investigated’ by police over alleged assault of Barnsley manager ‘left him bloodied’

Fleetwood Town boss Joey Barton is being investigated by police over an alleged assault at Oakwell on Barnsley head coach Daniel Stendel.

The incident is said to have taken place in the tunnel following Barnsley’s 4-2 League One win, which took them back to second place.

It’s claimed the Cod Army manager was upset by the Barnsley media staff before an alleged assault happened on the way to the dressing rooms.

Neither club have commented and it is said members of the media were escorted away from behind the stadium where the Fleetwood coach was waiting for the players and staff.

Barnsley striker Cauley Woodrow tweeted: “Firstly @ftfc to have a manager that can physically assault another manager in the tunnel is disgusting, causing our manager to have blood pouring from his face!!People like you don’t deserve a place in the game of football you are foul.Secondly fantastic win today @BarnsleyFC”

The tweet ended up getting deleted but not being it was quickly screenshotted.

Barnsley’s club statement read: “The Club can confirm there was an alleged incident in the tunnel area that took place following the conclusion of today’s match, which South Yorkshire police are currently investigating.

“The Club is assisting the police with its enquiries and, as a result, we are not in a position to make any further comment at this time.”
