Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish ended up cutting his eye open whilst he lifted the Championship playoff trophy at Wembley today.
Dean Smith’s side came out victorious after beating Derby County 2-1 to see them competing back in the top flight of English football at the first time since 2016.
The deadlock was broken on the 44th minute, El Ghazi got on the end of a superb El Mohamady cross to head Villa in front and have his side’s supporters singing until players went in down the tunnels for half time.
Just over 10 minutes later, John McGinn – who has had a cracking season – put Villa 2-0 up, though keeper Kelle Roos should have dealt with it.
Derby continued to knock on the door and it was game on when they found the net on the 81st minute when the ball fell to super sub Jack Marriott inside the penalty area smashed it into the far corner.
Prince William and John Carew looked on as the squad made their way up the stairs before getting in place to lift the trophy.
The big moment arrived, the squad were congratulated then the big moment came, Grealish and teammate James Chester lifted the trophy together.
However, as whilst jumping with the silverware, Chester then nudged the bottom pointy part of it into Jack’s face – leaving him with a cut.
