Cricket legend Geoffrey Boycott has appeared on an interview with MUTV, and he pulled no punches when criticising Manchester United’s season at the club’s Player of the Year Awards event.
Luke Shaw went on to be the man named both Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year for the 2018-19 season.
But overall some would say it’s been a dismal season for the Red Devils, who have no chance of a top four finish going into the final day of the season.
When Geoffrey was asked what Man Utd currently meant to him, he answered: “disappointment, more than anything”.
“For half of the season there was hope, some enjoyment, some good times, and somehow it’s kind of faded away towards the end.
“The football hasn’t been inspiring.
“If anything they’ve let themselves down, and the people who support Man Utd, because I think they’re a bit better than that.
“It’s not just the results – some of the football has been hard to watch, you know.”
When talking about the manager and that he’s come from a tough dressing room with Scholes, Keane and Giggs, Geoffrey said: “he doesn’t have a record of experience does he? Short time at Cardiff and he resigned honourable, he’s looked after a team in his home country but it’s not the Premier League.”
I don’t think #mutv will be inviting Geoff Boycott back on anytime soon. Ffs Geoff! ? #mufc #MUFCPOTY pic.twitter.com/imBV8m7iVx

As can be seen in the video above, the presenter tried his best to restore a note of optimism, pointing to the rebuilding process going forward under Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s stewardship.
The cricket legend took to Twitter to speak of that interview.
He said: “When MUTV requested an interview at the Player of the Year Awards I don’t believe my answers were untrue or unfair. The newspaper headlines are at it again making out I slagged people off. Please listen to the whole interview & not just the comments in certain newspapers.
“I have supported our Club for 55 years & I was delighted to be a guest at the POTY Awards but I won’t lie about this year’s football. I have loved @ManUtd through good and bad times, and will continue to but I don’t look at everything through red coloured spectacles!”
After watching the video, fans took to social media to give their amused reaction, with many saying he was telling it like it is – find out what more was tweeted on the next page.
