“Keep hating… I soak it up, I’ve deft with far worse in my life kids getting smacked or attempted to getting hit by adult fans is naughty…

“I do and say what I do for a reason, so keep it up guys, because I’mm here btw, love and respect to the messages I’ve had that saw and no why the incident took place and have had the time to message…. means a lot

Twitter users gave their reaction as video emerges of Reading and Huddersfield clashing outside the stadium…

@Stephan65595292: I saw this … and it was embarrassing. It defo wasn’t a scrap. It was a handful of Reading fans embarrassing themselves and looking like they can’t handle being on the beers so early. 😂

@etiawneb: Same bloke causing trouble every time, isn’t it? One bad egg at #ReadingFC

@harryy6666: What I saw walking past was maybe 5-10 Reading fans goading some Huddersfield fans who were in the bus queue. Most of those looked like they needed to be accompanied by a responsible adult. Clearly this muppet isn’t one.

@Reading106: Oh my days?! Tragic. Its 230 on a Saturday, at a bus stop in an industrial estate car park. Is the guy with the cap on backwards the same fella who was asking players what they thought of other teams?#Readingfc

@Stephan65595292: It was the Reading group getting in the faces of Huddersfield who were queuing for the buses. The knobhead in the Reading shirt was mouthing off like an absolute bell. So if a punch was thrown & landed it was deserved imo 😬

@CafcCl: state of them

@Szymkow49: There was lots of drunk Huddersfield fans in the town this morning. 🤦‍♂️

@MATTxLAW: An embarrassing bunch of pricks.

@harryy6666: Why on earth? There are some clubs where I think their fans have more than their share of idiots. But Huddersfield have always seemed decent to me. Embarrassing

The League One game itself saw Reading pick up a 2-1 win, a much needed victory to ease off-the-pitch unrest over club ownership issues.

Matty Pearson headed the Terriers in front in the 21st minute, only for Harvey Knibbs to levelled for the hosts nine minutes later.

Then Ben Elliott put Reading ahead, 12 minutes into the second half, with Huddersfield unable to find a way back.

Reading: Button, Abrefa (Dean 80′), Elliott (Savage 80′), Craig, Knibbs, Ehibhatiomhan, Smith, Campbell (Akande 70′), Bindon, Mbengue, Wing ©

Subs: Boyce-Clarke, Rushesha, Wareham, Garcia

Goals: Knibbs (30′), Elliot (57′)

Yellow: Elliott (20′),

Huddersfield Town: Chapman, Pearson, Hogg © (Hodge 82′), Marshall (Radulovic 62′), Koroma, Headley (Miller 62′), Spencer (Sorensen 62′), Kasumu (Wiles 62′), Evans, Lonwijk, Lees

“I think that the main thing for the fans, the team, the players and the staff is that we can all be focused on football,” Reading boss Ruben Selles said.

“I know of everything that has been going on around us but the fans were very respectful today.

“They did it [the card protest] in their way but they were still supportive to us. I think that is the way that we need to continue going.”

On the win, Selles added: “We are happy to get the three points after not doing so over the past couple of weeks.

“It was a very competitive game. Even when going 1-0 down, we still had a feeling that we could do it.

“We scored the first goal and scored the second one against a really good opponent. In the end, we managed to keep the score.

“At 1-0 behind, we have been demanding of the team to be a little more robust. After conceding, we then started to play a bit more.

“Harvey [Knibbs] had an irregular start to the season with an injury. Today was his first 90 minutes and he did very well.

“We know how important he is to us.”

“We found a way to lose,” Huddersfield head coach Michael Duff said. “We had dominated the game.

“It was a much better performance than in the last weeks so I suppose that’s a positive. Coming in at half-time, you can’t believe that it’s 1-1.

“And yet we still found a way to lose the game. We had 75 per cent of the game and, at 70 minutes, we were totally dominant.

“So it’s frustrating and disappointing. We’ve played a number of matches now and there’s only one team, Blackpool, who have been better than us.

“We need to adjust. We need to find a way of finding points, of winning games that we are drawing. We have to stop shooting ourselves in the foot.”
