Alex Dicken for Birmingham Mail wrote: “A couple of Blues fans have been ejected by stewards in the opening 10 minutes of this match.

“You can’t see an awful lot from our position here in the press box but there’s a lot of anger towards stewards and police in the end behind Ryan Allsop.

“The police presence at the front of the stand has now dispersed. Tensions seem to have calmed.

“The Blues fans who were ejected have now been let back into the stadium. They return to cheers.”

Social media users reacted after on a video which emerges of Birmingham fans ejected by Stockport stewards before being let back in…

@AccessiBlues: One of our supporters was asking the steward to move the wheelchair users out of the rain & cold. The steward ignored the fan & asked him to move back, which the guy did. The steward then called for reinforcement because fan wasn’t far enough back. The safety team over reacted. They grabbed the guy, dragging him out from the stairs. Wheelchair users other disabled supporters, kids around them being fell on & crushed. Other fans tried to help, but they then got seen as aggressors & the safety team turned on some of them too.

@justinbcfc92: He was looking for trouble from the start, nearly pushed a little kid down the stairs as well and didn’t say nothing

@vanny_vann3: Rushed around us barging people out the way including a young boy on the stairs and he didn’t care. It was like he was looking for trouble and we said bet all that at the front was him that caused it

@flyingbrummie: The head of safety today was class, the stewards was awful, got told we aren’t allowed to stand under the score board to keep dry in case it collapsed… 🤣

@Mommyrachael123: Bang out of order how they treated us today, was absolutely no need for it

bcfc.matt: Blonde afro got grabbed in the throat by a steward for no reason so everyone kicked off. He was taken out the ground then brought back in after police realised what actually happened

memelord_edboy: Was wondering what was happening over at the away end – hope it ended up okay. The Birmingham fans got outshined by our fans in terms of atmosphere though!

The game saw Alfie May put the League One leaders in front with five minutes on the clock, but Macauley Southam-Hales headed in a 78th-minute equaliser to earn Stockport a 1-1 draw at home to Birmingham.

Birmingham boss Chris Davies said to BluesTV post-match:

“I was pleased with how we looked in the first half, we score that early goal and start the game really well. They pressed us high but we used the spaces well. Alfie May is a great goalscorer, usually it is poacher’s goals but this one is a really good finish from a difficult angle, and we created a few chances after that too.

“In the second half they threw everything at us, went very direct in a 4-4-2 and I thought we could have handled that a little bit better than we did, especially with the ball. We need to be sharper, more in control to be able to break through their press. It is something that we need to look at, as I have just said to the players it is how we handle these kinds of situations in the future because it feels like two points dropped.

“I think in terms of that steeliness and that fight, we have got that and I never doubt the team in that way. They will give it everything and defend their box, and they have to do that, but for me it was with the ball that we had to do better with today.

“Scott Wright returned and I wanted him out there for his speed and quality, he is going to get back going again game by game. Lee Buchanan had a severe injury and will be out for the rest of the season unfortunately, Keshi Anderson has a knock and will be a few weeks, Emil Hansson will be slightly longer.”

Stockport boss Dave Challinor said per Birmingham Mail: “I’m delighted with our performance against, in my opinion, the best team in the league,” he said. “I’d question whether there was a foul on the edge of the box but what a brilliant response. Today was a massive test of our belief, seeing what we could do in the game.

“From the off we probably lacked a little bit there and doubted ourselves. And I said, if you’re going to challenge or change people’s beliefs then you have to go and be positive. And we battled and tackled, and made people think we’re up for it.

“We should have won the game but we’ve got more from the game and that second 45 minutes that, for me, is far more valuable than extra two points.

“We’ve performed really well in our last two games and not got what we’ve deserved in terms of our points return. You see the players give everything they’ve got and belief around the stadium increased. And that’s credit to the players, and the supporters for really jumping along with it.

“The atmosphere off the pitch in the stands is guided by what we do on the pitch, and we have to be in control of that. If we can reach the level we had in that second half on a consistent basis, then we’ll be absolutely fine.”
