VIDEO: Bolton fans have mass brawl with police following 5-2 defeat at Wigan

A video has emerged on social media appearing to show a fight breaking out in the away end between Bolton fans and the police.

It looks to have started when officers were removing a ‘fan’ from the stand, but he gets a whack from one policeman – a technique on the not co-operating offender – which then sees onlookers, some of them young, start on the police.

Watch the moment for yourself in the video below…

That was just the beginning of the trouble, it then developed into as mass brawl with some ‘fan’ grabbing, shoving and punching the police as they tried to defuse the situation on the steps.

GMP Inspector Tariq Butt posted a series of tweets on the incident: “This is the level of violence my officer had to face today… which only got worse post match.”

“The officers were in a volatile and vulnerable place and had to get him out…he refused to let go of the rail and needed to be removed….reasonable force was used…all strikes are at his arm or hand in order for him to release….all he had to do was let go and comply”

On the fan being removed, he said: “They tried to pull him….and push him….he was continually being asked to let go. He had removed segregation netting and was abusive and aggressive to stewards”

Liz Barnett from the West Yorkshire Police wrote: “People are quick to judge but the hammer fist strike is a technique taught on pressure point to release someone who is holding something. He is holding the railing and looking at the crowd was volatile they needed to leave this area quickly.”

Another video going viral is this bloodied struggling to walk fan below with many suggesting he was also a Bolton fan…

After watching videos of the trouble, the punch up and fan covered with blood, social media users took to give their reaction with many disgusted with what they were witnessing, the police also got talked about – check out what they tweeted on the next page.
