Torquay United manager Gary Johnson was left confused recently after BBC Cornwall had mistaken him for a skip company boss in a radio interview.
The former Cambridge United, Yeovil Town, Bristol City and Cheltenham Town boss seemed perplexed when he was asked “What’s the problem?” as he was introduced on the show by presenter Laurence Reed.
Gary Johnson replied, “What’s the problem? What problem? We haven’t got a problem. What’s your – what you saying?”
The presenter then asked, “You run a skip company, don’t you?”
Johnson said “Sorry?” and the call got slightly awkward when he was asked “You don’t run a skip company?” which he replied “I don’t, this is Gary Johnson the Torquay manager”.
The call then turned to something a bit more humorous when Johnson asked “And it’s not April the 1st is it?”.
It was eventually revealed the host’s producer dialled the wrong number and that he had put the wrong guest on air instead.
BBC Radio Cornwall’s managing editor Robert Wallace said: “We’ve all had a laugh about it. We like to think Radio Cornwall is a station that can laugh at itself.”
