USA fans amuse with their responses when being tested on English club nicknames, put to them by BBC Sport during the 2026 World Cup.
There seems to be a theme now of the media going to Americans and guessing the name clubs based of crests or the latest one being working out if a club’s nickname is true or false.
This is a trend that has been done for a few years now, Tennessee Titans getting some hilarious reactions to their schedule release video. Ipswich even used the same NFL music for their video a year ago. Now Bleacher Report and BBC Sport have done something similar…

BBC Sport: “We’re gonna test your knowledge of English football nicknames. The Baggies.”
Fan: “No.”
Fan: “Oh my god. Come on.”
Fan: “No.”
Fan: “I would say True. Yeah.”
Fan: “False.”
Fan: “No – True, True, True. The Baggies. True.”
Fan: “False.”
BBC Sport: “It’s True.”
Fan: For real? Oh my.
BBC Sport: It’s West Bromwich Albion.
Fan: “True.”
BBC Sport: No, no. They’re a real club.
BBC Sport: The Tractor Boys.
Fan: False.
Fan: The Tractor Boy? Do they have tractors in England? We’ll go False.
BBC Sport: Okay, it’s True.
Fan: Oh! Really? Who is it?
BBC Sport: Premier League Ipswich Town. Okay.
Fan: There’s no tractor in their badge!
BBC Sport: The Pigeons.
Fan: No. Pigeons?
Fan: Brighton is the Seagulls, not the pigeons.
Fan: False if I’m not mistaken.
Fan: True.
BBC Sport: False.
Fan: False?! Oh man!
BBC Sport: The Toffees
Fan: Toffees?
Fan: Like they’re tough?
Fan: Oh, that’s 100 % real.
Fan: Truth.
Fan: Yeah, they’re definitely true.
Fan: That’s real. That’s real.
Fan: Everton’s the….

Fan: I’m learning so much about this.
BBC Sport: The Posh.

Fan: That like Chelsea or something?
Fan: False.
Fan: I’m gonna fake… ‘the Posh’?!.
Fan: True. Yeah.
Fan: False.
BBC Sport: It’s real. Peterborough United
Fan: What?!
Fan: That’s not a real place.
BBC Sport: And the last one the Railwaymen.
Fan: I want to say true.
Fan: I feel like it’s gonna be like some small town.
Fan: Alright… baby.
Fan: You know British team
BBC Sport: A ‘British team’
Fan: A ‘British team’
Fan: I’m gunna say true on that one. True?
BBC Sport: It’s real, it’s Crewe Alexandra
Fan: Yeah! We did decent right?!
Fan: So what did we do, four for eight?
New Yorkers guess the names of EFL Championship clubs based off their crests
Ipswich Town asks Americans to guess names of EFL Championship clubs based off club crests
Here’s the social media reaction as the USA fans amuse with their responses when being tested on English club nicknames…
@jnd_90: Seeing a lot of “Do Americans recognise English club badges/nicknames?” etc. Place a mixture of real/fake college football teams, AAA baseball clubs or logos from “March Madness” and I would genuinely have no idea. 😂 (You should ALL know the Toffees though, we’re massive)
@RMcCarthy98: “Peterborough ain’t a real place” first decent thing a yank has ever said
@Dannybill: If the game was on, and BBC stuck a microphone in my face it would be launched.
@danny_wwfc: Do they even have tractors in England when an English man invented the first successful light farm tractor, might be the single most stupid question I’ve ever heard
@MHaworthBRFC: That new Peterborough crest is an abomination
@craig_the_fish: #crewealex are that massive that even the Americans know who we are
@Kingwolf84: Love it Peterborough isn’t even a real place….. 🤦🤣
@Suttynotsweep: They have tractors in England? Tells you everything about the average American
cguest12: “Do they have tractors in England” 🙏
krayhalfhidesmith: Peterborough mentioned 😍😂
Ngô Vũ Hiếu: They did much better than I expect. British people won’t do better in a MLS quiz.
lowcater: Love that @crewealexofficial got a mention.
chrisbrudenellphotography: As a posh fan. I can 100% confirm they are real. #weretheprideofcambridgeshire @theposh
charlotte_grix: Do they have tractors in England 💀💀💀
alexdgmurrell: Americans can’t comprehend that a team can have a nickname that has nothing to do with the badge. Also they can’t fathom that the team’s name can have nothing to do with the badge as well.
Richard Lake: Duh. Everyone knows that they only have tractors in the US.
theo_pan2026: Wait they have tractors 🚜 in England 🏴 no way of course we do 😂😂
adambattye: Think a few of them been on the baggies
jack.fra: If only Reading were still the biscuitmen. And don’t forget the chairboys!
Rich Salt: Hahah Chelsea, The Posh! 🤣
@yellows4life: i thought they didn’t do as bad as expected, some funny answers, the tractor answer confused me haha, the chelsea one you can sort of see what they’re getting at, think we gave them some easy ones, and to be fair, got to think, if british were asked nicknames of clubs overseas, i bet we’d struggle just as much as they do
