Two Premier League clubs want to sign World Cup winner Mario Gotze

Two Premier League clubs, Everton and West Ham, reportedly want to sign World Cup winner Mario Gotze as he is no longer wanted at Borussia Dortmund.

The Bundesliga high flyers sporting director, Michael Zorc, confirmed on Saturday that they don’t have him in their plans and will leave at the end of the current season.

Zorc said in Saturday’s pre-match press conference: “We will part ways with Mario Gotze this summer. It was a mutual and respectful decision. Mario is a great man.”

The peak of his career came when he scored the winner against Argentina in the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil, however from then on, it has slowly declined.

So much so that German tabloid newspaper Bild suggested that the player will only be courted by ‘category b’ clubs despite the interest of the Hammers and the Toffees.

It would be unlikely that both clubs can match Gotze’s current £170,000 per week wages.

Manchester United wanted his signature six years ago, be seen as a back-up at Chelsea, or he could even link up with his former boss Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Former Bayern team-mate Pierre-Emile Holbjerg, currently at Southampton, advised the German to make the move to England.

He told German outlet SPORT1: “Mario has been one of the greatest talents I have ever played with. He is a fantastic player, has always worked hard, also in the gym. He’s very disciplined.

“I can recommend the Premier League to every player because it is the best league in the world.

“I think Mario would love it in England. He is still a world-class player. I am sure that the League would love to have him here.

“I would recommend him not to get too close to me in this case because I would take him hard. I apologise in advance.”

He has already been offered to Inter, AC Milan, Lazio and Roma according to a report from Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.com.

Gotze has an impressive record, winning five Bundesliga titles and four DFB-Pokal honours across Dortmund and Bayern.
