Two arrests have been made after trouble at the King’s Lynn v Boston match as manager Adam Lakeland slams the series of incidents.
The National League North fixture saw reports of racist chanting on Boxing Day with Norfolk Police saying offensive language had been used in a game that stopped twice by the referee.
Two males, one in his 20s with another in his 30s, both from King’s Lynn, were taking into police custody on suspicion of using racially abusive language towards a footballer.
The man in his 20s also on suspicion of possessing class A drugs with both being released on police bail until the 16th of February as further inquiries are made.
There was also reports of homophobic chanting, again the police are investigating that.
Speaking after Boston’s 2-1 win earlier this week, King’s Lynn boss Adam Lakeland said to BBC Radio Norfolk‘s Nick Bowler described the alleged offensive language as “stupidity” with the club likely to get fined should it be proven.
He wasn’t happy with the “stop-start” nature of the game due to the referee having to report the troubling chanting, with the incidents not helping King’s Lynn’s cause.
The Linnets are already struggling with financial issues. as owner Stephen Cleeve reveals they need to get around £300,000 to finish the 2023/24 campaign.

Twitter users reacted on reports of two arrests made after trouble at King’s Lynn v Boston as manager Adam Lakeland slams the series of incidents…
@NotNotlynnfan1: the most lynn way ever of liquidating would be a fine for racism or homophobia
@Marillionmark: The sooner this football club goes out of business, quickly followed by the towns speedway team, the better it will be for every half decent person with a moral compass!
@bostonutdstats: Worst thing they did was disrupt Lynn’s chances of getting back in the game, right Lakeland? Haven’t seen or heard anything as to the recipient of the abuse – but whoever they are I hope they’re being appropriately helped after the incident. Simply no place for it.
@bostonutdstats: Approx 4 minutes in the attitude continues re the stoppage yesterday. Not one thought that maybe something out of order was said or needed dealing with. “I think he [the linesman] got bored on the far side” Christ
@linnet1976: Hopefully they’ll be found guilty and receive a long ban from all grounds. Shame they can’t be forced to pay the FA fine the club will no doubt be getting
@ScottyWalden: Confirmed 2 arrests made were for racial abuse (plus 1 of the 2 found to be in possession of class A drugs). But yeah, nothing wrong here… move along… 🙄
@DStedders: Let’s see how @officialKLtown deal with the culprits. Probably be allowed back in a couple of weeks. Tinpot from the manager with these comments. God forbid it happens to their players someday.
@bnolan_10: Classic Lynn 🤣😭
@Stainsy_J: Fine and point deduction.
@amshaw1973: Very strange and backwards people
@Will_Ostler: Not surprising coming from their fan base unfortunately
@craigandrewd99: Awful fanbase. Not the first time this has happened
@jackdboswell: A strange club. Tommy & co. dodged a bullet there
@TimSadler1991: Can’t believe homophobic chants still occurs at football games in 2023. Hope those responsible are punished and educated accordingly!
@GavinCaney: Club statement suggested homophobic abuse. Police one states racially abusive. Both are grim but from a comms point of view that misinformation has already been pushed through the press. Another shoddy example of operations at a ‘full-time’ football club.
@JoshBUFC: Even less shame than fylde that lot
@renny_overton: Suits a Cleeve ownership a manager like that, he’s a fucking clown as well as the owner
