Footage of Morecambe manager Ashvir Singh Johal making his way down the tunnel goes viral after his side’s 3-0 defeat to Boston.
Lenell John-Lewis netted twice and grabbed an assist as Boston ended a five-game winless streak, putting them ahead in the 23rd minute from Matty Carson’s cross, before setting up Dylan Hill for the second, and then sealed the win just before half-time with a deflected strike.
The result sees Morecambe sitting 22nd in the National League with 17 points from 22 games played, 3 points from safety. Boston are 16th with 24 points from the same amount of games played, 5 points above the drop zone.

Interviewer: That was a difficult result out there for us today. What do you feel were the biggest factors behind that scoreline?
Ash: The defensive solidity we’ve had in the last three games and especially the last two home games today was the complete opposite of that to concede. Three goals in the manner that we did was really disappointing and then it made it a really difficult mountain to climb through. And Boston seemed to capitalise on those key moments.
Interviewer: How frustrating was it to see the goals conceded in the manner that they were?
Ash: Yeah, really frustrating. They didn’t have to work for many of their goals. We gave them all three goals and that was really disappointing to them.
Interviewer: And you’ve spoken a lot about standards within the group. How do you address a tough performance like this and keep the players together and focused?
Ash: I think we need to firstly work out what the issues were today, which we know now. uh We saw probably the lack of desire defensively a little bit collectively from the group. uh And that’s something we need to address this week because it’s going to be another tough game on Saturday. So that’s something we’ve got to put right and we can’t take it for granted that we’re going to defend well. As we have done, we’ve got to make sure mentally we’re ready put our head full of that.
Interviewer: And looking ahead, what does the response need to look like this week, both in training and mentally?
Ash: Yeah, it needs to be a strong training week where everybody gives their all. And from day one, we’re switched on. And the performance in the game, we have to start a lot better. We’ve not created enough clear cut chances in the last few weeks. Some key personnel missing in the forward area of the pitch. We’ve struggled to create clear cut chances and for us it’s important that we get back to doing that because we’re a very dangerous team and we create chances. um For the last few games we haven’t created enough and that’s been really disappointing.
A tidy finish from Lenell John-Lewis to give the visitors an early lead 📐

Boston boss Graham Coughlan: “We never like losing, so forgive me if we lose and I’m a bit grumpy. This is what football is about, winning games. But the performance levels, like I said, and we’ve been consistent with it, the performance levels over the last five, six games have been really, really good, really high. We just haven’t finished that off with goals, with clean sheets and with wins, with points.
“It’s been a real tough November and the lads, in fairness to them, they’ve galvanised themselves. They’ve had a really, really good week’s work and you’ve seen the week’s work come out in the first half. I thought we were excellent. So, yes, we’re really, really pleased with the clean sheet.
“We’re really, really pleased with the win and the goals that we’ve scored because I do believe we should be far better off, points-wise, than we are. So, a lot of things have gone against us, luck, decisions, injuries, so on, so on.
“But that’s us whinging, that’s us whining, that’s us making excuses. So, it’s about getting the points, it’s about getting the goals. So, we’ve done that today. It all came together and I’m really pleased for them. I thought they were excellent today, to be fair.”
Interviewer: “You didn’t have a stack of chances but you were really clinical with the ones that you did great.”
Graham: “Well, I agree but then I’d also say we should have been more clinical. We could have got four, we could have got five. We got into some great areas, we had some great opportunities then but we just didn’t put the icing on the cake. So, yes, look, that’s me being probably ultra-critical. That’s me being a little bit finicky, pernickety with them.
“But no, I’ve got to be pleased with them. I love working with this group. They’re a really, really good group. They drive me mad, don’t get me wrong, frustrated and things like that but they’re a great group.
“Yes, I’ve been banging on to them about winning. That’s what football’s about. I’ve been banging on to them about clean sheets and I’m glad it came together for them today but I don’t want them to come off it. I want them to build on it and I want them now to enjoy their weekend, come in during the week, same training standards that we’ve shown for the last couple of weeks, same performance levels next week and let’s go and win another game of football. Let’s see if we can get on a little run and put a couple of victories together. So, there’s the challenge. The challenge is throwing down to them there after the game.”

Twitter users reacted as footage of Morecambe manager Ashvir Singh Johal goes viral after the 3-0 defeat to Boston…
@KJD1905: From the shambles we have to watch on a weekly basis. To the ridiculous comment of “we’re going to be one of the best footballing sides in the country” and now this! He really doesn’t help himself at all. I want it to work out with him, it’s nothing personal but please go. Quick
@thescreenster: Bloke’s won 4 games in his senior managerial career and thinks he has the right to tell match going fans to “shut the fuck up”. The fact he’s still in a job is insulting to everyone who puts their money into the club and everything the club stands for
@scottliam33: Absolutely disgusting from @AshvirJohal. I won’t be watching Morecambe FC again until he’s gone.
@Hopey_Media: This is inexcusable. How can you stick with someone who has clearly lost the fans. Someone needs to show some consideration for the lifeblood of the club who keep it going, and remove him before it’s too late. Disgusting behaviour
@joshbarnes96: Disgraceful get rid of him NOW! I left at half time today for the first time in my 25 years of being a season ticket holder! @Panjabwarriors
@thescreenster: Not been good enough all season never mind just today. If your mates won’t sack you, then do the only decent thing left for you to do and walk
@JamieBarnes14: No one’s turning up anymore to watch this dross pal. Please do yourself and us all a favour and resign 👋 we will wish you well and you will be far more respected if you do the right thing because the job is far too big for you at present. Thanks for your efforts and all the best
@joeysmokey: It’s time too go ash there was no movement at all it’s pathetic should of learnt of Derek Adams for season just go lad
