Twitter users hit out at Harry Maguire as he speaks out on Wembley chaos

Twitter users have hit out at Harry Maguire as he speaks out on the chaos we all saw at Wembley regarding fans storming into the ground.

The England ace has told how his dad Alan was left with suspected broken ribs by ticketless yobs who tried to gain entry.

Now the 28 year old defender has also called for a crackdown on trolls by social media firms in the wake of racist abuse of his team-mates suffered after the Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy.

But supporters have been left disappointed at his decision to tell everything to The Sun newspaper, who have come under scrutiny ever since the Hillsborough disaster.

On Sunday afternoon, numerous footage appears to show supporters breaching security barriers and running up steps towards the stands.

Eyewitnesses suggested hundreds pushed their way in and packed stairs, aisles and disabled areas, leaving some paying fans without seats.

They caused a breach in rules, whilst the country is still in a Covid pandemic – which has seen an increase in fans’ interest in gambling and of course Platin Casino live games – with stadiums still unable to allow a full capacity until the new season begins.

Maguire’s 56-year-old father was caught up in the shocking scenes which left him struggling to breathe after the Euro 2020 Final.

The accountant found himself pinned to the floor, suffering two suspected broken ribs, after a group burst in through a disabled entrance and stampeded past anyone standing in their way.

Harry, who superbly smashed home his spot-kick in the penalty shootout defeat, said of his dad’s ordeal: “It was scary.”

However, his Father has since spoken of his relief that Harry’s two daughters — who he usually holds onto his shoulders at games — were not caught up in Sunday night’s shameful scenes.

Harry said: “It was not a nice experience — it shook him up. But he was fortunate as every game he has been to he has had my nephew or one of my kids on his shoulders.

“So I’m thankful that did not happen as it could have been a really serious moment.”

His Dad was crushed alongside Harry’s agent Kenneth Shepherd as they made their way to the players’ families seating area to the left of the tunnel.

Harry, who was shocked by the footage of yobs, told The Sun: “My dad was in the stampede. I have not spoken with him too much but I am pleased my kids didn’t go to the game.

“It was scary — he said he was scared and I don’t want anyone to experience that at a football match.

“I have seen a lot of videos and have spoken to Dad and my family. It was my dad and agent who suffered the most.

“I hope we can learn from this and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

After being in extreme pain, Alan chose not to ask for medical treatment because he didn’t want to miss the biggest game of his son’s career.

Harry said: “My dad’s a big fan — he got on with it.

“He was struggling with his breathing afterwards because of his ribs, but he’s not one to make a big fuss.

“The experience at Wembley is always amazing, filled with great people and great fans normally. But this time was obviously the final and everyone got overwhelmed and the way some people acted was totally wrong.

“Dad will always support me and go to the games but he will be a little bit more aware of everything going on around. We should all be more aware and learn from it.”

Harry also told how there were several disturbances in the seating areas, where ticketless fans refused to budge. He said: “There was a lot of trouble. It happened where the friends and families were.

“A lot of people got to their seats and there were people sat in their seats. That caused confrontations with people being told to move.

“The main thing is you want it to be an amazing experience and you don’t want anyone to have any bad memories of the final.

“That is the disappointing thing. Things could have been a lot worse but we have to make sure it does not happen again.”

UEFA open an investigation into the stampede, Harry hopes the security chaos would not wreck England’s chances of hosting a future World Cup.

He added: “Wembley is an amazing place. It has been an amazing home and the fans and the way they have acted have been unbelievable, apart from the odd few in a final.

“We need to learn and we will — and it would be an amazing place to hold the World Cup.”

He also paid tribute to the support of his loved ones throughout the tournament.

Harry said: “I had around 20 family and friends in the stadium.

“I have quite a big family and they have followed me throughout all the games with England.

“Their support for me has been amazing during the tournament and they are on an emotional journey with me.”

Attention now turned to the World Cup in 2022, something of which England have been placed as third favourites to winning it – with odds currently at 7/1 according to Sky Bet, just behind France (6/1) and Brazil (11/2).

While majority support and send best wishes to the Dad of Sheffield born Harry Maguire, Twitter users hit out at the player as he speaks out to The Sun newspaper on the Wembley chaos…

@AaronBastani: I thought @HarryMaguire93 better than talking to that toilet

@davesavedlatin: I love @HarryMaguire93 to bits but this was an awful choice. No one who opposes racism and division should give their time to this rag #dontbuythesun #jft96

@joenj_: All the respect I had for Maguire, has gone, just like that

@Dija_x: As an England football player (or anyone for that matter), how dumb do you have to be to give an interview to The S*n?? 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️

@brengun66: What the fuck Maguire, have you got zero principles you knob!

@matt1878: @HarryMaguire93 that rag? Really!? 🤮

@CWRyder: Oh no Harry not the sun

@wynn_____: Thought better of Maguire 🤢

@zetaacosta: The Sun, why talk to that scum? I’m sorry for your dad and agree with your points but these fuckers have caused most of this derision with their bile and what about solidarity with Liverpool? Disappointing #dontbuythesun

@Mr_Dave_Haslam: #jft96 #dontbuythesun

@HillsideD: Disappointing, with the city he comes from and the paper’s history in particular

@JogaFirmino: Great choice of publication for this particular problem

@BillyBy17: Nice to see that @HarryMaguire93 stance on racism lasts as long as it takes for the first cheque to clear from the tabloids…..

@FALLLFAN: Disappointing he’s taking to this shite.

@colingraves09: What a dick talking to that rag!

@WattyWattDogg: Imagine giving an exclusive to the Sun on a subject like that. Only surprised they didn’t try to blame him.

@realtommyandert: Don’t buy the sun

@_CalvinDavis: Hero to zero speaking to this rag

@TheRealInnes: Selling Tacos and giving The S*n exclusives. Honestly, fuck this guy.

@tomefc14: England legend plugging Taco Bell day after losing the final then going to the shitrag

@LeonOnWrestling: in what world is the correct course of action to go to a newspaper that has had headlines bashing yourself and your england team mates. crap effort from Maguire

@stepheniscowboy: Most England players out posting heartfelt messages to the fans and strong political statements and Maguire’s off talking to a bigoted rag that hates football fans from his time off selling tacos

@BenRogerson_: Oh ffs, was actually enjoying slabhead during the tournament but then he comes out with the story, for this paper. Absolute bellend.

@shanobhawkins: You’ve well and truly fucked it here Harry, gonna be in for some stick that’s for sure.

@SarahLoftus_: if he actually spoke to them and gave the go ahead for this article then he’s kinda, seriously, really annoyingly, defeating the point of boycotting the sun ?????

@will_t09: Harry Maguire is better than this. #dontbuythesun

@Jack_Hobson96: Harry I love you but I’m very disappointed with this. No England player should go near the sun or the mail after the years of bullying they did to Raheem Sterling and other young black players

@devlintom: After everything that’s happened in the past 48 hours I am genuinely shocked that one of the so-called leaders in that team could still come out and give an exclusive interview to that paper

@taylor_walker8: Ffs Harry why are you talking to that rag

@bigbippidystrop: Maguire going to the same newspaper with a story that has constantly Rashford Sterling and I’m sure many others is peak white privilege ignoring the shit they’ve put his team mates through imo

@Mustapha_Dance: Don’t be a knobhead @HarryMaguire93

@rowlands7_jess: Talking to the rag that has repeatedly targeted certain footballers that he has played alongside probably isn’t the best look for Harry.

@ybthebest: Why Harry, why?

@BethReanne_: sold the story to the S*n? Honestly lost a lot of respect for Maguire now smh

@ThatChris1209: If there is a newspaper or outlet to give an interview to after fan incidents at a stadium, there is literally not a single worse one than the Sun. This the ‘The Truth’ headline paper. The paper who aggressively attacked your Black teammates for years. Horribly badly advised.

@virgilvds: His PR team needs binning

Twitter users continue to hit out at Harry Maguire as he speaks out to The Sun on the Wembley chaos…

@Amelia9896: Dissapointing this from Maguire like. Fuck the Sun

@utdstocks: Really, really disappointed that Harry Maguire has spoken to The S*n newspaper. A rag that was only just tearing him down less than a year ago. So so disappointed.

@fredknowsball: team refuses to meet Boris then one of the most high profile players does this. 2 steps forwards 1 step back man

@BrabinsGut: After not putting a foot wrong since the Czechs, Harry’s had a mare of a 24 hours.

@Murd73: Odd to see someone give an exclusive to a newspaper that has been at the forefront of underlying racism towards his colleagues for the last few years.

@1878Lee: Lost any respect I had for this box head cunt yeno

@roytheeditor: FFS Maguire. Have you not been paying attention? #dontbuythesun

@Tomffs: Beyond disappointed, thought the England players would do better honestly. Running off to flog a story to the rag who usually start the racism and hate we’ve experienced these last few days, fuck Maguire.

@RProud89: Very poor from Harry Maguire. Exclusive interview with these scumbags after all the shit they’ve given some of his teammates over the years.

@Liam_Fountain: John Stones would never

@L_Daly4: For fucks sake, surely not? Not you Harry, to that filth?

@Terrencemanyeh: @HarryMaguire93 doing exclusive interviews in Sun is more than disappointing. You’re captain of @ManUtd football club ffs show some solidarity with your teammates who have been racially abused in large part because of that rag

@jonsmitty316: Cmon Harry you’re better than talking to that fucking rag.

@AlanLovesLeeds: Let his team mates down with this, how can they call out racism then talk to this rag

@benjaminjh92: If I was Harry Maguire, I would avoid granting an exclusive interview to the newspaper that goes out of its way to undermine young black English footballers. And that’s before you consider anything else they’re guilty of.

@ScottBungkas: I’m pretty shocked any of them have spoken to The S*n after all the disgusting abuse levelled at footballers and supporters over the years. What’s up with this @HarryMaguire93???
