Walthamstow wow fans on social media with their ‘extraordinary’ new kits for the upcoming 2023/24 season.
The Isthmian League North Division outfit unveiled their strips which features designs by mid-19-century designer William Morris’s company Morris & Co.
To produce the kit, the club got in contact with Walthamstow-based William Morris Gallery, housed in a listed building that was had previously been Morris’s family home.
The home kit is described to be mostly a dark blue colour with light pale blue for the leaves and a pale pink for the flowers.
The away jersey is an aqua replica of John Henry Dearles’ design with a V neck collar.
Both shirts come with matching shorts.
“Full access to the gallery’s archive was given, allowing the design team to explore the full collection of textiles and wallpaper to choose the pattern which was digitally re-drawn and colour matched to be sublimated onto the clothing, taking over a hundred hours of research and design,” said Walthamstow FC.

Andy Perkins, the chairman of Walthamstow FC, said: โWilliam Morris believed that people should be able to live in harmony with the world around them; today we are unveiling the result of three yearsโ collaboration between art, sport and manufacturing. Iโm sure Morris would have approved and, if he was alive today would be happy to see his designs being worn by Walthamstow FC a club, which has provided sport in the borough for 155 years.โ
Hadrian Garrard, director of the William Morris Gallery, said: โWeโre proud to support our local Walthamstow FC through this unique collaboration. William Morris Gallery is part of a very special community here in north-east London and this is a great way for us to bring the work of Morris out of the gallery and into the streets and football pitches for next season.โ
Mark Clack, of Wood Street Walls, a London-based art collective which helped devise the project, said the launch of the kit โmarks a three-year journey to make what we believe is the first collaboration of its kindโ.
โWe hope that the collection will help raise the profile of the club and build the strong community links the club is building. In the words of Arsรจne Wenger: โFootball is an art, like dancing is an art โ but only when itโs well done does it become an art,โโ he added.
