Tributes have been paid as the death of former Walsall, Rochdale, Kidderminster player has sadly been confirmed age 51 on Sunday.
The Welshman played as a defender for Walsall and Rochdale in the EFL and later went on to coach youth kids, one club being Penn Fusion Soccer Academy in West Chester, PA, however he only stayed for one season, then went on to move to Nova Scotia so that he could resume his coaching career.
He worked as Youth Team manager at Shrewsbury Town alongside former Salop defenders Peter Wilding and David Hughes.
Then in 2011, he agreed to pull on his boots again and was named in the squad for Newtown for the New Year’s Day trip to Welsh Premier League champions The New Saints.
Martin O’Connor said in the following social media statement: “Some sad news today .. my friend and team mate Wayne Evans has passed away following a heart attack RIP Wanners”
Rochdale tweeted: “We’re deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Dale man Wayne Evans.
“The full-back played 297 times for the club between 1999-2004, putting him 8th on our all-time appearances list.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this tough time.
“R.I.P. Evo π #RAFC”

Kidderminster said: “Wayne Evans made 15 appearances for Harriers in 2005-06.
“The club sends its condolences to his family and loved ones at this sad time. β€οΈ”
Bescot Banter posted: “We are saddened to learn that former Walsall defender Wayne Evans has died at the age of 51.
“Joining from Welshpool Town in 1993, Wayne made 183 league appearances over six-years in WS1 before going on to play for Rochdale & Kidderminster ahead of a return to Welshpool.”
Shrewsbury Town said: “Shrewsbury Town Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former academy manager Wayne Evans. Wayne was head of Salop’s academy for four years until 2013. The thoughts of everyone at Shrewsbury Town are with Wayne’s friends and family at this sad time.”
