Tranmere Rovers issue a club statement regarding EFL’s Instagram post which saw their own supporters blocked from making comments.
The club were made aware by supporters on Saturday 23rd May at 11am about the inability to leave comments on a Tranmere-related post published on the EFL’s official Instagram channel which included images of their 2019 League Two playoff victory over Newport County.

Very disappointed that the @EFL has blocked comments on Tranmere content. This is exactly the time that debate MUST be allowed #TRFC

I’m aware that a lot of @TranmereRovers fans are having their twitter accounts blocked by @EFL. Debate is good but let’s make sure tweets are not offensive and don’t break twitter rules. If you think you have been unfairly blocked let me know by replying below. #TRFC

Tranmere’s statement read: “We understand that the EFL’s policy is that comments should be available on all EFL posts and should not be deleted unless in breach of rules. As far as we are aware, the Tranmere-related post was the only post affected by any issue with commenting.
“Within an hour of the EFL being informed by Tranmere, comments were enabled. Subsequently, however, some of the comments made, permanently disappeared.
“The Club received numerous enquiries from both supporters and external media channels asking for an explanation, particularly given the exceptionally sensitive timing for the Club following the EFL’s proposals for the 2019/20 season and the need for robust debate regarding the proposals, which are to be put to a vote.
“We therefore asked for clarification from the EFL, outlining our strong concerns and requesting a full explanation to why this has happened.
“The EFL advised us, and have since confirmed their understanding, that no EFL employee disabled or re-enabled comments, or deleted comments. Given that this begs the question of how it did in fact happen, we are now awaiting a further response from the EFL upon completion of their own internal investigation.
“We will inform supporters as soon as the response has been received and a successful conclusion to the matter has been reached.
“The Club will be making no further comment at this time.”

Excellent and entirely reasonable response to what’s happened.
The @efl may be back-pedalling from the allegation that they actively censored the comments, but nevertheless, censorship did happen & they need to explain why.
Too much at stake for our club to allow this carry-on!

Are you really worried about this in these times? Jeez!

Go get them @TranmereRovers! Don’t let these idiots get away with blatant bending of the rules!
— Nick Jackson (@_poshhammer) May 24, 2020
Hello Kim Jong Un sorry I mean @EFL are you going to block all the Tranmere fans like you deleted the comments on Instagram? We all know you’re corrupt and breaking your own rules and blocking us all won’t hide that!
— Tom Boys (@Boyseygolf) May 24, 2020
Over at Instagram, the @EFL have prevented comments on posts about tranmere. Go have a look if you don’t believe me. They appear to not want dissent to be visible to others as they attempt to silence us. We going to silently watch them censor the SWA?
— Martyn (@MartynSWA1984) May 23, 2020
That is disgraceful.

Why have the @EFL deemed it correct to post this, esp during Mental Health Week? If I’m not already feeling totally devastated and low as a result of unjust relegation – seeing those doing it to us simply not caring in such a public way is a kick I simply didn’t need atm
