Tottenham Hotspur have chosen to sack their manager Jose Mourinho with immediate effect according to reports on Monday morning.
There have been claims that an explosive morning saw the boss refuse to take the squad onto the training ground over the club’s proposed European Super League admission.
Now Ryan Mason will be in temporary charge until June with Daniel Levy set to look at who to appoint next.
Spurs have had a poor time of it in 2021 and look set to miss out on Champions League qualification for a second consecutive season, having previously played in the competition for four campaigns in a row.
With six games left, Mourinho saw his side just five points off fourth-placed West Ham in the Premier League table who had their own issues at Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon, but Chelsea and Liverpool also sit above Tottenham with a game in hand, while Everton could still overtake the north London club with their own game in hand.

www.fanbanter.co.uk – Fan reaction to the latest football news, gossip & funnies
Tottenham’s slide has been dramatic since the 3-1 defeat at home to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on the 28th of January.
The North London outfit have lost seven of their 14 Premier League games since that day, winning just five matches and drawing two, conceding 21 goals, just one less than they have scored.
On top of that Tottenham lost in the FA Cup fifth round with a defeat at Everton and then came that embarrassing collapse in Croatia as they threw away a 2-0 first leg lead to lost 3-2 on aggregate at Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League. Eek.
While Mourinho initially got a reaction from the Tottenham players, the last 17 months of his appointment has seen neither an improvement on what came before nor a true Mourinho team.
Fans reacted after seeing Tottenham Hotspur sack their manager with immediate effect…
What an honest, humble genuine man, parting with Spurs after hearing they’ve joined the European Super League. 👏 pic.twitter.com/LQ5ouz23m2

@UtdBlitz: I hope he walked over the Super League but sadly he was probably sacked cos of the results. Could see it coming tbh, wonder what’s next for him
@Somers_10: No way they sack him just due to results with their first cup final for years only a few days away
@haarrryy_: Respect to Jose for standing down after the ESL announcement, or could just be the shite results but either way.
@T1mSk3och: Plot thickens Jose against Superleague spoken to Levy levy sacks him on the spot. Spurs big club my arse.
@chrisjhocking22: If its true he refused to take training and let the players train in response to this super league he’s gone up a level in my eyes. Likely to be the first of many!
@HLTCO: I’m hoping that Mourinho took a stand against this Super League shite, got Levy up against the wall and jumped before he was pushed on principle.
@NozAhmed: Daniel Levy saw the outrage at the European Super League news, so he sacks Mourinho to get fans back on side. We can’t beat this guy.
@EvinPaulDaniel: Man didn’t want no part in ESL.. Respect
@derbytwits: He’s probably had something to say about how fucking selfish the club is!
@ImpressionistAL: He’s been an absolute pain in the arse the last few years but if the rumours are true about Mourinho taking a stand against Levy entering Spurs into the bullshit Super League then fair play to him, he was getting the sack anyway but he left with his integrity in tact at least.
@unrealxherdan: They fully got him in to make their documentary more interesting then booted him
@ZestyZouma: If he’s stood up to them and that’s why he’s been sacked what a man
@spreathed: Thank you for standing up for the fans José.
@Fahazhan10: Has Jose protested the ESL and walked? If so, huge credit to Mourinho…
@B3x_Graphics: If he walked because of the Super league, then good on him
@Toby_THFC: Fucking disgrace, I am ashamed to be a Spurs supporter today. ENIC and Levy, you vile clowns, get out of this club.
@TovellTweets: What an awful birthday present. Didn’t think you could be any more spursy. First you support this selfish league out of pure greed (we’re not even European elite anyway) then you sack Jose less than a week before the final. I don’t think I could be more disappointed in you.
@chingu9495: What is wrong with you people?! 6 days before a fucking cup final?! Are you for real!!!! TELL LEVY AND ENIC TO HANG THEIR HEAD IN DHAME FOR FAILING US ONCE AGAIN.
@ArminCFC_: Was probably gonna win you a trophy despite having a pathetic team, and this is how you treat him? Disgusting.
@chartonghen: absolutely disgraceful treatment of him and the staff, we should br ashamed of ourselves for sacking him, josé was right to stand up against the super league, and cost him his job
@OsmanZtheGooner: Won’t be surprised if Jose Mourinho comes on to beIN Sport next week and claim high moral ground and talks passionately against the ‘European Super League’ to attract interest/sympathy. Knowing very well none of the Super League teams will employ him
@mainlyoasis: This has to be super league related. No way would you sack a manager 6 games before a cup final. Good on Jose and his team for standing up. Hope the rest will follow
@bankruptspurs: Let the door hit you on your way out, you shower of shit.
@chartonghen: Tottenham sacked Mourinho over a huge disagreement of the fact we are joining the Super League. Even if you hate the man, you can’t lie to yourself cos José is doing the right thing, he tried to stand up against ENIC, do what’s right for us supporters and it cost him his job
@Jxckkss: He has defo said something about the European super league and they have sacked him because of that
@afcjxmes: Holy shit this is chaos
I love Jose Mourinho. He took stand against the Spurs because he didn’t agree with the idea of the Super League even if it meant losing his job. Need more managers to do the same to save football. Thank you Jose Mourinho❤️ pic.twitter.com/M198BjHQri
