Tottenham fan sets Christian Eriksen shirt on fire just hours after Man Utd transfer news

One Tottenham fan sets his Christian Eriksen shirt on fire just hours after discovering the latest Man Utd transfer news emerging.

There has been a huge amount of speculation as to where the Denmark international would be playing next season having spent the second half of 2021/22 back in the Premier League with Brentford and impressed many with how quick he returned to playing again.

He was offered fresh terms by the Bees and there was also rumblings that he may go back to Tottenham or even be tempted at signing for Manchester United, but has since chosen to speak with those at the top of the Old Trafford outfit.

Some have taken his decision to join the Red Devils rather badly, one fan went to extreme lengths to showing his anger, destroying his old ‘Eriksen 23’ jersey before posting the video to social media and watched it go viral within less than 24 hours.

Eriksen came back to the Premier League having suffered a cardiac arrest during a Euro 2020 group game with Finland last summer and had a implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) fitted.

It saw him leave Inter Milan as Serie A regulations meant he couldn’t play for them, so Brentford manager Thomas Frank, a fellow Dane, came to the rescue and tempted Eriksen to return to England and helped steer them away from the relegation zone with one goal and four assists in 11 appearances.

The Bees had made it clear they wanted to keep him for beyond last season and were willing to break their wage structure.

Eriksen was demanding £200,000-per-week and a £10 million signing-on bonus, according to The Telegraph, but it’s currently unknown if those are the terms United accepted, though he looks set to sign a three-year deal.

Big changes are expected of Manchester United, who finished sixth in the league last season and failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Erik ten Hag was appointed back in May and is working hard to improve his squad. As well as Eriksen, a deal for Feyenoord full-back Tyrell Malacia is said to be close while Malacia was set to join Lyon after agreeing personal terms, but Man Utd came in for him at late on.

Discussions continue with Barcelona over a move for Frenkie de Jong, while Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez is someone Man Utd hold strong interest in.

Martinez worked under ten Hag at Ajax and has informed the Dutch giants he wishes to move this summer. However there is competition from Arsenal.

Fans reacted as a Tottenham fan sets his Christian Eriksen shirt on fire just hours after the Man Utd transfer news…

@StokeyyG2: state of this

@Superspurs131: Embarrassing

@SteelerSpurs: I’ve seen some cringe stuff on this app but this has to be the worst. Embarrassing.

@FClMthomas: Why does Eriksen going to a different Prem club bother you so much?

@looneymetal: Hmm he was a great player for us, gave us some great memories. We’ve decided to not re sign him (seemingly due to wage demands) upto him where he goes… least not arsenal!

@Robwhitt07: Strange behaviour from you

@KingOfTheCast26: Christ, this is embarrassing

@alfie_patto: Wouldn’t do that so close to a wooden fence mate, just a heads up 👍

@1882__THFC: Eriksen has just had a change of heart and has now decided to join Spurs as Spurs put a late bid in for him

@THESnafu: As a Spurs fan, I find that embarrassing and as a Spurs shirt collector that is heartbreaking.

@EWaldon10: Grow up lad

@mcfcIeo_: 300 likes for burning a Spurs shirt with printing that cost around £75 which amounts to 25p per like. Great job

@TheFergusonWay: There’s absolutely no reason to do this.

@UtdLuc: Aint that deep mate

@ReedyLiam: Burned a man’s shirt who effectively died on the pitch. That’s clever. If he tipped up at the emirates you wouldn’t begrudge him. He’s been handed another chance at life and is lucky to still be playing. Some things go beyond football and certainly beyond rivalries

@xvinnywx: What a helmet ⛑
