Tottenham fan and his Dad, 70, beaten up by Sheffield United fans when leaving stadium

A Tottenham fan and his Dad, 70, were beaten up by Sheffield United fans when leaving the stadium following Wednesday night’s FA Cup clash.

Some sad news however has emerged overnight, with a Twitter post by a Spurs fan showing the extent of their injuries, caused by a Sheffield United supporter(s).

@Craig_Pankhurst, a stroke survivor and founder of the ‘A Stroke of Luck’ charity, said: “Thank you for such a lovely welcome @SheffieldUnited. This is me and my Dad on the way out of the match this evening.

“Now in an ambulance on way to hospital. He’s a 70 year old man. This is what some of your ‘fans’ thought was appropriate.

“Now I’m hospital. Waiting for scans. What a terrible end to his 70th birthday surprise 😪 we thought the @SpursOfficial result was the worst thing this evening. Clearly not.

“Dad’s left side now swelling up quite badly. Still in hospital. Police have been back in touch. Hopefully they’ll catch the street rats.

“Back to our room in the Premier Inn after 6 hours in hospital. What a truly awful night.

“I wonder if we will hear anything from @SheffieldUnited? I’m sure they’d be ashamed of their ‘fans’ who did this.”

As can be seen in the photos, the father and son were giving details to several policemen over what took place outside at Bramall Lane.

The club have been urged to comment, with fans wanting the culprit(s) to be caught and punished.

The game itself saw Iliman Ndiaye produce a special goal which proved to be a late winner, as Championship side Sheffield United beat Tottenham to reach the quarter finals.

The game looked to be heading towards extra time, when substitute Ndiaye made his way past a few defenders and beat Fraser Forster with an excellent low strike at the near goal to send the home fans happy.

Tottenham beat Chelsea to increase their hopes of finishing in the top four in the Premier League. They looked slow as they tried to stop Sheffield United goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.

Richarlison put his shot over the bar from close range, failing to impress, which then led to Spurs bringing on Harry Kane in the second half. However, even Harry Kane, the club’s all time top scorer, couldn’t help his side, making one chance to score, when he went unmarked to cross the ball in the final seconds of the cup clash yet missed goal, as can be seen in the highlights further down in the article.

The Blades will now face Blackburn in the quarter final, while also trying to clinch a promotion place, sitting second in the Championship, seven points above third place Middlesbrough and have a game in hand over them.

Tottenham assistant manager Cristian Stellini speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: “If you don’t win a game like this its because something was not perfect and today our energy was not enough to put the opponent in a great difficulty.

“We had opportunities to score, but now we have to analyse the goal we conceded. In the moment if you concede a goal you need time to recover.

“There was more energy from the changes, but we have to improve a lot.

“I can only apologise to the fans for our performance and they deserve much more than this.”

Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: “The performance today had youth and energy and they can all handle the ball very well the younger lads.

“The performance from all the players was first class and the experienced boys at the back was class too.

“Tactical changes were made to win the game and fresh legs was needed for us to get the win. You can make all the subs in the world, but the players sill need to perform.

“We have a lot of league games now before the next game and this competition is parked now and it’s onto the league. The Championship is what we are fighting for, but we do try to enjoy the FA cup just as much and I feel the fans are a lot less apprehensive.”

On being in the stands: “I wasn’t looking forward to being on the gantry but the players made me enjoy it!”

@SJWROE1: Absolutely disgusting this. This is why I won’t take my kids or old man to a match these days. Far too many brainless dickheads! @SheffieldUnited I’m interested to see & hear your response

@Tottenham_Feed: Hope you guys get patched up and home soon. Madness.

@Dunsbyowl: Bless him – very sorry to see that – no one should have to experience that sort of thing. Hope he recovers well and safe journey home.

@Ranky84: Get well soon mate, absolutely no reflection on decent united fans

@SpursSimpsons: I really hope @SheffieldUnited do something about this. @SpursOfficial this is such a shame a 70 year old had to go thru this

@AshardLorraine: Sort this out @SheffieldUnited your cctv needs to be handed over to the police .. and what a waste of time for two supporters @SpursOfficial! What a complete waste of time!

@le_lebouf76: What kind of cowards set about a 70 year old fella at a football match or any innocent fan – if your billy big bollocks go and join a firm with like minded folk we’re you will see how much balls you have when it’s coming back the other way

@hummelsino: Things like this seriously need to stop. Just because someone is a fan of other club than you doesn’t give you a right to hurt them at all!

@AgingBull73: Really hope @SheffieldUnited supporters who were there last night and the local police capture the scum who attacked these gentlemen, especially one who was celebrating his 70th birthday. No need for this in football nowadays. Absolutely disgusting. 😡🤬

@FS101_: It’s football. Why the fuck do people feel the need to attack people, a 70 year old man is hospitalised due to a football result. Let that sink in.

@hlouiseg: This should never be the result of going to watch a game. A game incidentally that the fans involved had just won, why not just go enjoy your victory somewhere?
