Some Torquay fans are being denied entry for their Non League Day match at Notts County

It has been reported on social media that Torquay United fans are being denied entry for their National League meeting at Notts County on Non League Day later this month.

It comes after they were banned from attending home games for pitch invading on the final day of the 2018/19 season when their team won promotion from the National League South.

An email a fan received read: “I am writing to you concerning the above fixture that is to be staged at the Meadow Lane stadium on Saturday 12 October 2019. In preparation of the game we have liaised with the Torquay United Football Club’s Safety Team who has advised us that you are currently subject to a Torquay United Club ban that prevents you from attending home games played at Plainmoor.

“As Safety officer, I have responsibility for ensuring that appropriate measures are taken to reduce the potential for antisocial and disorderly behaviour at the forthcoming fixture. For this reason, I believe it is both proportionate and necessary to issue you with a Notts County Club ban, with immediate effect, until after the game is played.

“I would advise you in the strongest possible terms to comply with the ban, however, if you choose to ignore it and are seen within the Meadow Lane Stadium, you will be immediately ejected and ticket money will not be refunded at the ground. Furthermore, we will advise the Torquay United Safety Team as well as the Devon and Cornwall Police, who will attend the game, of your failure to comply with the ban and they may record the circumstances for their future reference.”

A petition has since been launched on change.org and has been signed 176 times.

The description of it reads: “Things have not been been the same this season at Plainmoor…

“20+ plus fans ran on the pitch to celebrate our only championship win in 90+ years but yet the week before 500 odd Torquay fans also ran on to the pitch and celebrated.

“But yet they are the only people to get banned from attending games at Plainmoor.

“Bring them back and let’s get Plainmoor rocking again to get behind the lads on the pitch….

“One silly mistake is all it was and these lads have been following Torquay home and away for 15+ years.

“Lets get as many votes as we can and take this to the club, these lads deserve another chance surely COYY!!!!”

After checking out the email the banned Torquay United fan received from Notts County saying he is also unable to attend his side’s away game later this month due to the punishment, fans took to give their thoughts with some feeling is was harsh and others suggested they shouldn’t have ran on the pitch at Plainmoor last season – see those tweets on the next page.
